Though Hanazono offers sushi, it's only rolls. I really prefer the purity of plain sushi, where you can taste the fish. So I ordered the Poké, which was ahi tuna over rice, with sliced avocado. Unfortunately, the ahi was covered in a strongly spiced sauce which completely drowned out the flavor of the fish. And the miso soup was quite... More

I just did not expect to find a place that served Shoyu ramen with such a good taste in Port Townsend and am pleased that I did. The soup has a deep rich broth and was topped with pork and spinach and bean sprout bamboo shoots and a lovely egg. At $10 this was an excellent deal. My date had... More

We missed our ferry so walked over to enjoy some noodles while waiting for the next ferry. There was a very young crowd here, but we didn't feel out of place & it was a good vibe. Though the menu offered other options, mostly everyone was slurping huge hot bowls of delicious noodles. The soft-shelled crab & tekka maki sushi... More

I know very little about Japanese food except California rolls, which are probably an abstraction of authentic Japanese cuisine. I had friends visiting from Austin TX, with PT always a nice place to take out-of-town guests, especially during our dreary gray winter days. My friend's Indonesian wife poked her head inside and pronounced Hanazono as the place for lunch. From... More

The food here is fresh and delicious. Because the diners have a view of the kitchen, one can see that the chef and cooks are conscientious experts at what they do, and it shows in the beauty of the preparations. Like most of the very small restaurants in Port Townsend, the diners are blasted with cold air every time the... More

We walked by this place several times and the one thing we noticed consistently is that it was always busy. We decided to give it a shot this time and were informed of a 20 minute way. Our advantage is that we were only a party of 2. We were fortunate to get a table in the promised time. Despite... More

I did a take out order from this restaurants based on the Trip Advisor Reviews. My husband took a few tastes of the dishes we had ordered and said "This is the worst Asian food I have ever eaten and I won't eat this." Our take out order went into the trash.

I stopped in for something light and warm! I was able to get a double order to go! It was a bit chilly and the soup hit the spot!

The food was good as was the service but we were expecting a sushi bar. The miso soup was too salty to eat but everything else was good. This appears to be a popular "family" restaurant because as we were leaving another couple came in with two young toddlers, besides the couple that was there earlier with their 2yr old... More

Hanazono is one of our friend's favorite in Port Townsend. The menu is quite extensive... salads, soups, sushi, donburi, stir fried noodles and some very interesting desserts (that we were too full for... green tea tiramisu was particularly appealing). Definitely a restaurant to return, and try more dishes.
