my husband and I have been to Mackinaws a few times over the years because of the beautiful building, atmosphere, and great food. We choose this as a favorite spot when we travel to Green Bay. Last night, we went 20 minutes out of the...way to go to Mackinaws. For the first time we went with our 2 1/2 year old daughter. We had said yes, we would like a high chair, but no one ever brought us one and we had to find one on our own. No big deal. They have a really cute childrens menu with crayons, and healthy choices as sides that come with. We did the mac and cheese with streamed veggies for her. I had the coconut shrimp with steamed veggies and rice. My husband had the baked cod with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. We shared the cheese curds (come with french fries) and ranch. The fried foods were all just fine- Not the best or worst - just average. Their sauce for the coconut shrimp was very good, and ranch just a little better than store bought- average. Their baked cod was dry, and way overcooked and had no flavor. The masked potatoes had way too much garlic and an odd aftertaste. The coleslaw was not good - warm like it had been sitting out way too long. The rice was just fine. The steamed veggies were like they came straight from a bag of frozen microwavable veggies that were microwaved too long- some were tough and they had no seasoning at all. The mac and cheese tasted overly buttery and like it was reheated leftovers- all stuck together and not creamy at all. When asked how everything was my husband told the waitress who just became uncomfortable and said oh im sorry. He had taken two bites of his food and didnt eat the rest. She didnt ask if he wanted something else and didnt offer to take it off the bill. We definitely did not take any of the leftovers home. After this visit, I don't know if we will be coming backMore
