We took our granddaughter to a Xmas play and dinner to one of favorite German restaurants for an ol' fashioned Milwaukee Xmas . The waitress was attentive and took our order in good form. When we were finally served the food was only lukewarm. My wife's duck was only warm and was a small portion not in keeping with prior... More

Granted this was Thanksgiving and I was too late getting a reservation at my usual place so I picked Karl Ratzsch's. Nice start parking 1 block from the restaurant on the street. A couple reasonably priced cocktails to start. Tasty. Had a nice table and a fairly friendly waitress/server. We were served at our reservation time. Ordered turkey dinners. No... More

We arrived at 6:00pm. The only diners present. Our waiter (Brandon) was right on the spot. Help was needed to choose from so many fine beers. We all went with a wheat beer. Very good even on the second. Appetizers had some sauerkraut and sausage, really tasty. But the high light had to be the pork shank. Way too huge.... More

I have been going to Karl Ratzsch's every year since 1978. It WAS my favorite restaurant. The beauty of it was that I knew exactly what to expect. An exquisite meal, fantastic beer, relaxing and warm atmosphere. Alas, nothing lasts forever and I had to try the new Thomas Hauck's version of Ratzsch's. MAJOR disappointment in all food items, including... More

We had a good experience at this restaurant. Our service was great and the food was very delicious. I recommend the schnitzel, blood sausage, and potato pancakes. The beer list had many good German options. It was exactly what my husband and I were looking for. We wanted German food in Milwaukee and had been to Mader's (a very well... More

I have been trying to go since the new owners took over, I tried to get 2 previous couples to go with, the first had been there and found it disappointing, the 2nd had read reviews which they thought were less than compelling, finally last Friday(10/14) I was able to convince a good friend to join us. I ordered the... More

My husband and I planned to try the new Karl Ratzsch's and then see Itzak Perlman in concert. The meal was absolutely deplorable. He had crackling pork shank (tasted like someone dropped it in a deep fat fryer for way too long and no taste). He had a Braunschweger appetizer and could not even find the pieces, they were so... We have come here many times, I feel like we will be done here. PROS-great beer choices...that's it! CONS if you love the duck/goose combo...it's gone. If you love German food? The ala carte is now in place $2.00 here and $4.00 there and it doesn't taste all that good. My red cabbage was over cooked, my snitzel was bland...for... More

We have been going to Karl Ratzsch's for years -- but this is the first time since new ownership & the remodeling (including downstairs restroom). We REALLY weren't pleased with the "new" place. It misses the ambiance of former restaurant though the flooring was much needed and lighting improved. Servers and staff were VERY casual compared to the authentic appearance... More

Horrible! Hardly anything German about the food, and the quality was mediocre at best. This is Americanized German food at its worst. Before we left we overheard a conversation that the original owners had sold the restaurant. Maybe that explains it. I lived in Germany for 16 years, and no self respecting German would serve any of what they pass... More
