Relax and refresh after a walk around the park or the beach at the spacious Courtyard Café, where you can enjoy a morning coffee, light lunch and afternoon tea. In the summer you can dine alfresco in the sunny sheltered courtyard, or take a seat inside the café with its delicious menu and variety of moreish cakes. Our food is locally sourced as much as possible and the café offers a variety of hot and cold snacks and meal options with our daily hot dish of the day which is always tempting. The café is also a great place for children as we offer a range of tasty options for a classic Holkham style packed lunch. We also cater for other dietary requirements such as gluten free, vegan and vegetarian.

If you are visiting Holkam Hall it is worth spotting in for lunch at the Courtyard Cafe. Here you will find an excellent array of sandwiches, sausage rolls, soups and other tasty items plus cakes galore. There should be something for everyone and the staff were all very friendly and helpful with one even recognising our dog breed and having a chat about her! Try the New York Deli sandwich for something a little different!

Selection of cafe food was a bit of a disappointment, and people had to wait for hot food as the ovens weren't to temperature so we had to make do with sandwiches. Staff in cafe were young and seemed inexperienced, some work to do here. Cafe was completely disabled friendly, sandwiches were nice. Toilets were clean. Lovely cafe, but needs a little work for the extra star.

Visited Cafe after a year away due to Covid. Have been near numerous times before and always enjoyed a cup of tea and alive of cake. Considering only one percent of the British population cannot for medical reasons have gluten, why on earth are all the cakes gluten free??? I know gluten free products have improved enormously but a slice of Victoria sponge will not be the same with gluten free flour. Please give us a choice, don't cater only for the minority.
There were a few items, ( not cake) which were made with normal flour which were very nice but is Holkam aware these products contain numerous e numbers, hydrogenated fats and palm oil !!!

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We aim to be as inclusive as possible and have listened to our many coeliac visitors (and also those who chose gluten-free) who were keen to have more than one, tokenistic option. We've found that the vast majority of our visitors have been more than happy that a larger number of our cakes are gluten-free and have happily enjoyed them, whether they are coeliac or not. But is is always helpful to know when we are not hitting the spot, so thank you for your constructive feedback which we will consider when planning our offer for next season.

Joined queue at 1pm and hoped to have the cream teas but they had run out. Advised to come back in 15 mins when scones would be ready.
Joined another queue just as scones came out the oven so got them fresh and warm.
Tea was only available in paper cups even for inside consumption at £2 each.
On eating found scones were a bit dry as they had been overcooked but otherwise tasty.
Rest of food on offer seemed expensive and all the cakes were pre-packaged. Quite different to most other venues.

Many thanks for giving us your feedback. We bake our popular scones at regular intervals during the day - as much as we try not to run out, it can occasionally happen! We'll have a word with the team about the paper cups, as we usually serve tea in ceramic cups for people eating and drinking inside. At the moment our cakes - most of which are made for us by local bakeries - are packaged for hygiene reasons, but we can promise that that doesn't compromise their yummy taste.

We haven’t been here since Covid and we’re disappointed by the selection of cakes, mostly gluten free, not local and not cheap either. Mediocre coffee, comfy chairs have gone and now quite an uninviting space to sit, although nicely decorated. Toilets very clean, shop over priced, won’t rush back in a hurry.

Many thanks for your feedback. Comfy chairs have been temporarily removed for winter to accommodate our larger number of visitors to our Christmas events, but they will be back! Thank you for your comments regarding our menu which we will consider when planning our offer for next year.

Very limited range on offer been coming to Holkham for years and have to say he courtyard cafe menu is disappointing and has never changed over that time it probably ok if you like leak& potato soup veg chilli & sausage rolls and a small range of pre- packed sandwiches. I would suggest it would be better to franchise it out to deliver a better customer standard.
Missing great opportunities here.

While some tried and tested ranges do stay the same, much of our menu changes daily, with different soups, salads and hot dishes on offer, catering for various tastes and dietary requirements. The vast majority of our food - including the pre-packed sandwiches - is made freshly each morning, in house, by our team. Having arrived at this beautiful country estate the expectations were high but the cafe was more like a motorway service station - staff didn't seem to care, tea was a mug with a tea bag in it - apparently they are not allowed to use the teapots - there was one on a shelf behind but it could not be used. All the bakery items were in plastic packaging and individually wrapped with a mass produced feel. When we asked about scones they said they are too busy in December to do them. Asked for a portion of wedges but they wouldn't sell them separately. Really disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback - it's always really helpful to know what our customers think. It might help just to clarify that it is a legal requirement that our bakery items are pre-packaged, and we are working on ways to do this in a more sustainable way. Many of our café items are packaged in eco-friendly packaging.

I was disappointed to see ready sliced defrosted slices of cake covered in plastic . Unappealing. I thought the Hall embraced sustainability? Surely they could source cakes made by a local supplier? . Scones weren’t covered in plastic but sold out by the time I got around to ordering . Breakfast earlier in the day ( 3 sausage roll ) was pleasing and coffee good . Salad was appetising . Staff charming and helpful . I would be interested in knowing why Holkham offer defrosted pre packaged cake slices ?

Holkham Estate
Thank you for your review. We are passionate about sustianability and the majority of our packaging in the café is compostable, or at the very least is recyclable. Hot food is served without the need for packaging.
Unfortunately, we have not yet found a solution for cakes that meets demand, is sustainable and allows visitors to help themselves (which legally requires packaging). We are working on this; if you have any ideas, we'd love to know! You can email info@holkham.co.uk.

Last summer, my family and I visited Holkham Hall and had an amazing trip. We had a gorgeous sunny walk around the lake and a delicious meal recommended by the hot food supervisor James. This time we had a festive treat waiting for us at Holkham. The hall and the Cafes looked spectacular with all the Christmas trees and decorations. The food was festive and tasty. However, we were deeply saddened to hear that the James the hot food supervisor had left. The team were incredibly friendly however, they must’ve been following his outstanding example. We look forward to visiting again.

Great offering for a cafe, a huge range of drinks/cake/snacks and a few vegan and gluten free options. Nice spot to sit outside in the sunshine, and dog friendly. Also loved the focus on recycling, sustainability and plastic free options!

Nice environment with outdoor seating in the old stable yard. Plenty of choice to eat. Toilets are clean and the gift shop is full of expensive 'stuff' to remind you of your visit.
The staff were all very professional .
There is plenty of space around the park to bring your own picnic - maybe a good idea as it is a busy spot.

We visited Holkham to see the candlelight display. We arrived early to have some lunch. The cafe was absolutely freezing and we had a miserable lunch. The only place which was warm was the gift shop. The toilets were freezing and the tour around the hall which was beautiful was also bloody cold. We were cold from 2pm until around 4pm it was pretty miserable!

Sometimes in North Norfolk it does get incredibly cold and despite our best efforts, a listed building is going to have some draughts. Popped in for lunch and had a vegan sausage roll. Absolutely delicious. Also had a lovely pot of fruit. Friendly service. Reasonable prices (considering the location etc). Plenty of seating.

Beautiful food, served by friendly staff in lovely surroundings. We chose the frittata with three salads for lunch. Hearty and healthy fare. Delicious too. Choice of outdoor or indoor seating. Nice clean loos. Lovely all round experience.

We sat in the courtyard but were informed we could take our dog inside on a lead as long as he didn’t go on the furniture. Water bowls for dog available. Expensive generally but we found that everything Holkham related was. We decided to share a portion of Macaroni Cheese which came with 3 side salads £12.00. The salad bar options were good, we had mixed leaves, aubergine salad and a mushroom and bean salad. There were more salads we could have chosen from. We did notice that there was a lot of pre packed sandwiches/cakes in plastic which seemed a shame.
