Having moved to the island from southern Arizona, we are used to excellent Mexican food -- and this comes pretty close. We especially like the chile Colorado and the enchiladas. Not crazy about the chicken burrito: not much flavor and would not order that again. Otherwise have been very pleased. Fast, friendly, and chips with a nicely-flavored salsa while you... More

If you are looking for a good cheap bite, the definitely hit up Mi Ranchito. They have a large menu of authentic Mexican cuisine for very non-tourist prices. However, go alone or take out because there is very little seating.

Great value for big appetites who like traditional Mexican food. Not a bad stop at all. Try the carnitas or camerones de diablo so good.

Moving to the Big Island from Atlanta, we sorely miss good Mexican food! This little hole in the wall prepared everything fresh, and it was surprisingly great, we'll definitely be back!

Hubby and I enjoy lunch here once a week. I don't know how they turn out the quality and selection of food they offer. The kitchen is tiny but apparently it's full of love because food comes out tasting like my mama would have made if she were Mexican. Do yourself a favor and look until you find this place.... More

Outstanding authentic Mexican food! Doesn't look like much but friendly people who take great pride in serving excellent food. A must if you like truly authenticity Mexican food. Extensive menu and very reasonable prices. Don't miss it.

The parking is in the back of the building that it shares with other businesses, so it is easy to miss it. It has a small patio where you can sit and eat after ordering your meal at a little window. When your order is ready, the cook or her helper will come to your table with it. The food... More

This place is not easy to find, blink and you miss it. Look for the big brown building of the Kohala Trade Center. There is a tiny sign in front but the restaurant is in the back. Limited parking on the street (which is almost always full) but there are a few spots in back. There are many choices in... More

I love their chile rellenos! They are the bomb! This is a very small, family operation that serves big taste. Be sure to try the chicken super nachos as an appetizer.

If you're in Hawi looking for a good-value, authentic Mexican meal, you're in luck! The restaurant is a kitchen with an ordering window, and several tables on the lanai . You order from the very extensive menu, and the food is delivered to your table. The cuisine is best described as "Mama's home cooking". It isn't fancy, it's just tasty,... More
