What a lovely spot. First you're in beautiful Havi and then you enter a restaurant that is laid back but very professional. I was sold when I asked if they had a chilled martini glass, they did and the Grey Goose with three olives was perfect. The second was even better. No third, you know the joke. We skipped the... Great fish sandwich. Don't miss the passion fruit margaritas! Nice gift shop attached. Clean bathrooms and a happy atmosphere. Great service.

Our well traveled & polite children (10, 12, 14 & 16) love cooking & new flavours, and were looking forward to eating here after reading reviews. The menu left a poor initial impression with the self-imposed 18% 'tip', 'substition charges' warnings, & 'live music upcharges' on drinks. We persisted, and the service was fair. The Thai Coconut prepared Ono was... More

Gosh, I'm not sure what menu John read, but we do not have "substitution charges" nor a "chef tasting menu." Yes, we do add a gratuity on tables of six or more as does every other restaurant. And, yes, we raise the price of cocktails fifty cents on nights with live entertainment, but there is no cover charge. Finally, I'm... More

The Bamboo is a neat place to check out; lots of history to the building, a shop, and the gallery upstairs. We had the pulled pork and ribs, both of which were very tasty. I'm not sure how often they have hula dancers, but we were fortunate enough to get to watch them.

Very old Hawaiian. Food was fantastic. I had the barbecue ribs. The sauce was great. Loved reading the history of the building on the menu. Definitely need to stop here

I've eaten here before, but never again. 1st off it was extremely hot in the restaurant, no AC. The manager was rude because my grand children were playing with sugar packets. Then thy dropped something on the floor & she came by and said we need to keep a better eye on our children. It took about 45 minutes to... More

Please read our reviews to see this doesn't happen often. I actually like kids and have four grandchildren of my own. And please do skip this restaurant if you think such public venues are a place to let your grandchildren run wild. Allowing your child to smush up all of the sugar packets and throw them on the floor is... More

Had a light dinner. Rick did an excellent job as server, good was good though price seemed a little high.

mangogirlhawi, Owner at Bamboo Restaurant, responded to this review

Yeah, so sorry, we did have to raise our prices in the four years since you've been here. Everyone at Bamboo got a dollar an hour raise to their minimum wage by law. We do try to keep our prices as low as we possibly can, but that made a big difference, even though they deserve it! More

Always come here before hiking down to the beach. Had fresh fish with rice and salad. Found long strand of hair at the bottom of my salad, told my waitress. She apologized and made me a new plate. The manager should come by and fix the issue.

I don't know how this got by me, because I am here 6 days a week when the restaurant is open. Neither Tanotoba nor the server said anything to me. I can only offer my apologies. More

This place was hailed as the best restaurant on the island. I ordered a Mac Nut Ceaser with Mahi Mahi, and the dish arrived with no Macademia nuts. When I pointed this out, a small bowl of chopped nuts was delivered with apologies. My partner also hadn't grilled Mahi Mahi served with white rice, and The meal was underwhelming, however... More

Yep. Right-o. We are not perfect. OH! Someone forgot the macadamia nuts! Criminal! "You're FIRED!!!" ha, no... we're just people, we make mistakes. And a "small bowl" wasn't sufficient? Whatever. We don't serve "white rice" (it is Hawaiian white sticky rice mixed with brown rice). And we don't serve plain old grilled fish... there are seven fish preparations, each unique... More

I come here each time I head to the Big Island. Find a reason to make it to Hawi, go zipline, do the ditch, hike Polulu but stop here for food. Service is great, the manager always seems to come by to ask how things are. I love they talk to their customers and care. It makes a HUGE difference!... More
