We stopped for lunch about 30 minutes before lunch service was over. We had Japanese Curry, Coconut Shrimp, and the sautéed lamb. Everyone was VERY happy and the garlic rice almost steals the show. This was one stop worth every moment!

This was a suggestion from our BnB host. No real surprises, all good ordinary meals. Pleasant staff and no waiting. BYO alcohol. Maybe a little $$$ for what it is.

I had the lamb pita made with local lamb. My husband had the Japanese curry. Both were excellent choices!!

Puka Puka is located in a small unassuming place on the front street of Hilo facing the ocean. Their business seems to be split equally between prepared lunch boxes you can grab to go and a small dining area of perhaps 12 seats. Everything is surprising good and prepared with skill especially the fried foods which are made to order.... More

My wife and I were traveling around the island and decided we would stop in Hilo for lunch. We read the reviews on this place and they sounded good. The photos helped make the decision. We were pleased with our meal. The place is pretty small but we got a table pretty quickly. Lots of good choices. We had falafel,... More

Had a great lunch here. Chicken Katsu, Garlic Rice (Rice Pilaf), and a salad. It was the perfect size. The Katsu was made to order. The rest of the group had Chicken Pita, and Shrimp. No complaints. I would eat here again!

I was a bit worried about eating here with my daughter whose palate is very conservative, to say the least. However, even she was happy with the falafel and fries. I had the ahi curry-- delicious! The menu has a bit of everything-- Hawaiian, Japanese, Indian, Middle-eastern. It can be busy and hectic at lunch, so if you want a... More

From the outside and even after you step inside you might wonder what kind of place you've gone into. Don't be fooled by the look of the place. We stopped in and ordered the lunch special, Japanese chicken curry, and a Ahi pita. The price seemed reasonable, but after we got our food we realized the price was great. The... More

This restaurant will blow your mind. From the outside and even after you step inside you might think what kind of place is this. It looks like something out of a 1950's movie but don't be fooled by the look of the place. The food is first rate and very reasonable. I don't look at Hilo as a place to... More

We had such a great lunch here--I had a falafel pita and my husband had a don plate with tempura vegetables and rice. Yes, they have both! The food was tasty and fresh (best salad I've had since we've been here), the server was great (just found out she's going to be a grandma and shared the great news with... More
