We three stopped in after a morning shopping at local farmers markets. One chose the house salad, which was of a good size and excellent fresh ingredients. The other two chose fish sandwiches, and the fresh salmon was excellent (ask for it if you don’t see it on the menu). Delicious! Highly recommended for lunch or dinner if you’re anywhere near this part of the island. Friendly service and delicious fare.

Came for lunch today and ordered 2 different large pizzas for 4 people. Both took a while as they are made from scratch. When they arrived, they looked wonderful and tasted delicious. Service was very good. The menu has many other Italian style dishes that sound very good. The restaurant itself is very attractive with lots of tile and wood work, including a large carved (and curved) bar and tables that look all looks fairly new. It appears to have moved east on the street several hundred feet according to my gps so be prepared. We plan on coming back for a dinner.

We are return visitors to the Big Island & really enjoy driving over to Cafe Il Mondo. Now you must have reservations due to limited indoor seating. We both ordered the Meat Lasagna that comes with a salad & garlic bread. This is a wonderful & filling meal but the Meat Lasagna has very little to no meat in it. We encountered this one other year when we visited & thought it was just a one time thing until now. I hope this is just because times are tough & will not become an ongoing thing. The salad & garlic bread are amazing & the lasagna is really tasty too BUT for the lack of meat. We will try again for sure.

I spent $62 plus tip for 3 small pizzas (2 were supposed to be large but were barely bigger than the small) and there were hardly any toppings and took 2 tries to get the order correct. Not even a good crust nor flavor. Couldn’t see the pesto nor taste it on the pesto one. Total rip-off.

Visited here every time we are on the Big island & are never disappointed. Hours have been limited due to Covid, masks required. Good idea to make reservations. They are very friendly & helpful. We love the lasagna dinner. Served with salad & bread it is VERY filling. They do not have this every day so be sure to ask when you make your reservations if that is something you might be interested in having. We dined with a party of 5. Service was great, food was delicious! We will definitely be back!

We just stumbled across this wonderful restaurant. Eclectic to say the least. This is a unique step into a slow relaxed pace like I remember as a kid. The sandwiches were excellent, pricing was decent. The chef working the pizza oven was friendly and outgoing, and the server was friendly as well. Check the photos... this is a great place to visit, and we were happy to visit for a short while.

Aloha. Every once in a while, we just happen to wander into a restaurant by fate. We'd been hiking all morning in the area and thought we'd check out Honokaa because it looked cute. We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away. We were hungry, so we ordered two specials and one cheese pizza. From the first bite it was apparent everything was made from scratch and delicious. We savored every bite. It wasn't just scratch pasta, the bread was to die for! We lived in Europe for a couple years and this place was just like being in a family restaurant in Italy. Fresh, simple ingredients made for a beautiful, memorable lunch. The service was equally impressive. Aloha, Cafe il Mondo!

We had reservations, we saw the table we were going to be seated at yet it took forever for some to acknowledge our presence and set us at the table. They desperately need a Host/Hostess! The server was very nice once we got seated. The food was pretty good. Our friend had the shrimp special and that was excellent . The calzones were very good, the spaghetti and meatballs were so-so. There was suppose to be music, but no one showed up.

The pizzas were so much better than I was expecting! The crust was perfect, not greasy and the option of fresh ingredients were high quality and delicious. I'm so glad we found this little gem of a place! Also, a good value. We had 1/2 of a 10" pizza to bring home for our dinner.

We really LOVE this restaurant but for some reason they don’t answer their phone. We try to make reservations & their website doesn’t work so our only alternative is to call. We call during business hours on the days they post that they are open but no one answers. We are an hour away so we won’t make the trip unless we can get someone to answer. If they have to close unexpectedly, easy enough to change their voice mail but that never happens. Very frustrating when we are trying to give them business. They have the best lasagna and their Greek salad is delicious.

Had both the il Mondo salad and pizza. Have tried to recreate the salad at home because it was so good and lovingly made. Nice wine selection and outdoor dining. Wish they’d serve after 5 pm

Stopped by this restaurant after a tour at the Hawaiian Vanilla Company. We were lucky enough to get the last table in the restaurant. The server was excellent and the food was amazing. We also enjoyed the guitar player who entertained us during our lunch. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, in fact, one of our friends who was with us is returning today!

Stumbled upon this restaurant while on way back to Kona from a visit to Big Island Farm. The oven baked pizzas were great. We went with a simple 12 inch Italian. They substituted pesto for basil. Yum. Atmosphere was great. Service was friendly. As meals on the island go not bad price wise. Highly recommend.

What a terrific place. Food is mind blowing. The whole staff and owner are amazing! Such a great atmosphere and the food matches the atmosphere, everything we had every time was outstanding. What a pleasure it was to meet the owner, the staff, and the excellent patrons. This is a must do!

We stopped at the restaurant on the way from Volcano National park to Waikoloa resort. Great place to have lunch or dinner with real traditional Italian food (yes, brick oven) and exceptional hospitality
