We've been to other Roy's restaurants in Maui, Kaui, and AZ and this was disappointing in comparison. We did not have a view which I see a lot of people commenting on so that may have helped. However, sitting in the middle of the noisy, overcrowded restaurant, it just didn't meet our expectations. The food was good but not anything special - my fish was slightly overcooked - and the prices were so much higher than what we paid for equivalent meals in other restaurants. The saving grace was excellent service. Our waiter was attentive, able to provide information about the dishes and recommend wine which was perfectly paired.

We have eaten at this Roy's twice, and found food and service inferior to the Roy's at Waikiki and in ones in California. Food is overpriced for average quality, and service was uninspiring. The menu also lacked variety and creativity. Not a wonderful dining experience.

The place is trendy and expensive, however they do give very large portions. We had a small wait for a table as we did not reserve so would recommend doing this as it is a popular place. Complimentary edamame is given at the start. There was no vegetarian options on the menu so we did enquire and they made a stir fry for myself with veg and tofu. For my wife they made a pasta. There is also a small selection of salads to pick from, we had the one with vinaigrette which was okay. My stir fry was surprisingly nice and wife's pasta was bland but the helpful waiter brought over some chilli and this was the perfect touch to the pasta. Chocolate soufflé for dessert was delicious. Waiter had an issue with our card which he said to call the bank company, but we don't have roaming over here so not the easiest to do and I know there's no issues as used it many times. His colleague tried and it worked so don't know what happened there. Hostesses were very pleasant and friendly as well.

When you order a $50+ steak, it had better be good. My experience here wasn't good. One steak ordered medium came practically raw and had to be sent back. The other we found a small piece of plastic in it. The waiter and manager were gracious about these problems, but when a place charges exorbitant prices, I expect the experience and quality to match.

Usually like this place on trips to big island....went tonight to get a few appetizers for take out as family was not u to going out after a long day. A most uninterested host said she didnt know if they did take out, then checked and came back to tell me items they were out of( nearly all the appetizers)..... when i questioned her about being out of spicy tuna roll, she left in a huff, then came back and told me they were not doing any takeout tonight. Two other front desk staff stood by, equally uninterested. I wont go back again...... they need to hire staff commensurate with their $50-60 entree prices!

I've been to several Roy's restaurants on various islands of Hawaii (decades ago) as well as Roy's restaurants on the mainland, and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to dine at this Roy's restaurant when we were in Hawaii February 2020. I'm not only glad that we went there for our Valentine's Day dinner, but we cancelled another reservation elsewhere and returned after we checked out of our hotel on the way to the airport because we enjoyed our experience so much on Valentine's Day, We generally sit a the bar when there's just two of us, and despite our plan on Valentine's Day to sit at a table for two, the bar looked more inviting, so we sat at the bar. Service was excellent, both for drinks and our food selections. I ordered the special Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner: salad, pork, beef tenderloin, and dessert. I found the portions to be a little larger than what one might expect for a "tasting menu" (which is good!). The tastes and flavors were all quite good. Hawaii is uniformly more expensive than similar restaurants on the mainland, so while the meal was not inexpensive, our meal with cocktails and a bottle of wine seemed quite reasonably priced. "The proof of the pudding" that we enjoyed Roy's is that we had two dinners there in our 5 days on the Big Island.

Overall, this restaurant is not worth visiting. To expand, the atmosphere, service, and food was entirely subpar for a restaurant with a reputation for being a Hawaii mainstay. We were excited to try it given the reviews and ratings from various island publications but overall we would avoid if you had a choice. To start, the ambiance of this location is terrible for dinner. The restaurant looks very worn down with boring white walls with scrapes, cuts, dings, and dents throughout. The chairs are showing their age , and frankly, it feels like someone rented a community hall and loaded it with rented tables and chairs. There was zero character or ambiance. The service was very poor during our visit with our server changing multiple times throughout the evening and no cohesiveness to the experience. We were asked multiple times if we'd ordered drinks or food or would like dessert. The drinks took 15-20 minutes to be received (standard cocktail and a glass of wine) after ordering and then they didn't take our dinner order until after drinks were received. We ordered Mac nut Mahi Mahi and the Salmon, both of which were recommended to be served "medium." The Salmon was raw in the middle and the Mahi Mahi was well done... The vegetables with the Mahi Mahi were undercooked (potatoes were still hard and asparagus was basically raw) and the salmon came with a bowl of white rice and three carrot slices. Keeping in mind it's relative, it was terrible food for a restaurant with a reputation for serving excellent food. All things considered, this was one of our worst meal experiences on the big Island and we'll not be returning. We were very excited and from the moment we walked in and sat down it was the most disappointing meal we've had. If you're planning a meal at this price point than go somewhere else because this was extremely disappointing.

My husband wanted to eat here for his birthday. We were seated promptly at our reserved time. On the way to the table, I started noticing food scrapes, empty pea pods, on the floor. Our waitress was pleasant but not really on top of things. Got my husbands drink order wrong, never brought something we asked for, checked on us 1 time. It was very nice however, that she heard me call my husband' birthday boy' and brought us a complimentary dessert complete with candle. I was a bit surprised by the well worn and not too comfortable chairs and the diner-like table. By the time we were walking out, the food trail on the well worn carpet was tripled. The food was pricey but good which I had expected.

The restaurant had fantastic views of the lake which is scenic and serene. The restaurant is quiet enough that a small group can have a dinner conversation. The service was prompt and friendly, though we would have enjoyed coffee with our desserts, we didn’t get a chance to ask for coffee before desserts arrived and were finished. :/ It’s fairly cold in the restaurant- I’ve been here numerous times and this is typical for this Roy’s. The macadamia nut encrusted snapper was on the pre fixe menu. Sounded promising but was quite bland, despite the two sauces. Would have preferred more than three spears of asparagus with the entree because it was perfectly cooked and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. Water refilled without delay, food served at appropriate temperatures (desserts right out of the oven) and dishes promptly removed. The food was warm, but temps in restaurant were colder than preferred for this diner, but the ambiance was good.

My husband and I ate at this location a few years ago and it was excellent. We were excited to return since our local Roy’s closed. Reservations were hard to get, had to call multiple times to get an actual person. Our server was very impersonal and our food was terrible. 3 of us had steaks, completely over cooked. 2 of us ordered Mahi and the portions were tiny. So disappointed and will not come back.

Maitre’d was a bit standoffish. I have eaten at other Roy’s so looking forward to similar experience. Unfortunately, this was not to be. Edamame was cold and my entree was tepid ( butterfish in lobster sauce). Dessert of upside down pineapple was delicious but served with vanilla ice cream versus coconut of others. So overall average at best. Seems they have audience in hand due to resorts, so why work harder. Disappointing they can be excellent.

We recently went to Roy’s not know if they had reopened yet. We were celebrating our anniversary but with most of the restaurants on the island still closed, we didn’t know what to expect. We found that Roy’s was open but we needed reservations. When I mentioned it was our anniversary they said they could accommodate us for an early dinner if we came back in an hour. What we discovered was the opened early just for us. The other reservation guest didn’t start to arrive for another 1/2 hour. We had a great time! Excellent food and excellent service. You could not ask for more.

My wife and I had dinner on a weeknight at Roys in Waikoloa, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Our reservation was at 7:30 and we got seated right away with space in mind considering the COVID-19 situation. Wine list is extensive and offers a great selection. Champagne was brought in an ice cold bucket promptly. Appetizers were outstanding, brussel sprouts were done perfectly. Entrees were lobster tail and filet, both perfectly cooked, and the misoyaki butterfish which was also perfection. Service was professional and prompt, the restaurant is very clean and well spaced and you can tell the chefs know what they are doing. We will be back for sure!!

The food at Roy’s is always very solid which is why my rating is 3 stars. The blackened Ahi is very reliable and the appetizers were very good across the board. The server was nice but the whole meal was very slow moving. The ambiance of the restaurant is an absolute disaster. The mens room was flooded, the tables are old and destroyed, the carpet is worn, etc, etc. It honestly felt like we were eating in a diner that charges $50 per entree…..
