Question: what smells better than a bakery? Answer: not too many things I can think of at this moment. Large display of items to choose from

This is the only place in the city that my wife and I ate at 3 times on our vacation. Our hotel was 2 blocks away so we had breakfast there. Their baked goods are awesome.

There were a few interesting pastries but we only tried the custard tart ($1.10). Delicious! Line was big but quick.

The pastries here were pretty average compared to other Chinese bakeries that I've tried - but that's not a bad thing. My family bought a huge box of pastries back to the hotel for breakfast because we wanted something quick and easy without having to be seated at a restaurant. The pastries are pretty filling and should last you until... More

Stopped here on our first day in SF, looked through window and saw it was packed with locals which is always a good sign. Food was delicious and reasonably priced (for SF). Highly recommended.

I read about this place in the NY TImes and decided to try in our first morning in SF. We ended up going back the other 3 days. I can't tell the name of what I ordered. I just pointed at what I wanted. It was all fresh out of the oven, piping hot, chewy, delicious. And we never paid... More

We were late in the afternoon but they still had a good assortment of very treats. The egg, bacon roll was very good. The onion bun was good. The hot baked BBQ pork buns (these are in a hot keeps on the side in the back) had a little gristle but we're very tasty. Everything is dirt cheap. Communication is... More

We were looking for some authentic Bao Buns, as we had not had them in years since we moved from the East Coast to the MidWest. The pork Bao Buns are sweet and delicious, the Egg Custards are to die for and the Bean Paste Bao Buns are mind blowing. If you are looking for Bao Buns and an authentic... More

We went here at the end of our Sidewalk food tour. We had the egg tarts and they were creamy with a very flaky crust. Really good.

Only had a chance to try the BBQ pork buns which are the best I've ever had, just out of the oven. Make sure to stop by on your next Chinatown visit

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
