We've been here more than a dozen times but the last 4 visits were rather a hit or miss. We used to love coming here for the quality of food esp their steaks. Had wagyu twice and it was good. Our last visit we celebrated my daughter's bday ended up disappointing us. I noticed that it wasn't as busy as... More

The special, Japanese imported meat is absolutely phenomenal. The steak was made to perfection at exactly the level I requested, and Rare plus is hard to nail! They were very accommodating to my flavor palate and gracefully agreed to change my sauce setup to my preference. The bacon bread was superb and the spinach was melt in your mouth delicious.... Food and service were both excellent. The crab salad appetizer was delicious and my fillet was prepared perfectly. A side order of mushrooms ("Shrooms") was ideal with the steak, too. 5A5 should be on anyone's list of fine steak houses in San Francisco.

A beautiful room, a very relaxed environment, a great mix of diners and superb food with great service. I had seem the mixed reviews of 5A5 before going, but it turned out to be a great experience. I know style is entirely a personal thing, but I like the room and the way they have laid it out: a comfortable... More

Just visited 5A5 for a birthday with a party of 6 and from start to finish everything was fantastic! The carnivores in our group were extremely satisfied with the choices of meats available. I especially liked that our server brought out a sample of the choices of meats and cuts available. He took the time to explain why their meat... More

What a disappointment. I wanted to like 5A5 but it was just all too wrong for me. First we ordered wine and I asked for it to be decanted. It took the server a very long time to return with a decanter. We asked for a few appetizers to try more of the menu and they all bombed for one... More

Their food is okay I guess but this place tries way too hard to be cool and the vibe makes me feel really uncomfortable.

I decided to have a guy's night out with some friends here last month. We showed up, and were greeted nicely at the door. Two of us were quite early, so we had a couple of rounds at the bar while waiting on the rest of the party to show up. The scotch/whiskey/bourbon choices there were fairly limited and a... More

This place specializes in high end steaks from overseas. Think $250 per steak. I had planned to order the 8oz Fillet - American, but was talked in the T-bone aged 21 days. It is enormous! However, it was tough and did not have much flavor. The side mashed potatoes we're over whipped but we're tasty due to the extras included.... More

Probably the best filets mignon I ever ate. The entrance of the restaurant appears a bit shabby. I had no reservation so I was seated in the bar or lounge area. No problem for me. Unfortunately it was cold outside and each time the door was opened it became really chilly. Food was excellent. Service was good during ordering but... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
