Very nice restaurant as lives up to the many good ratings. Pleasant staff, good food and able to handle special order from my children. I would imagine the restaurant would be ever more suitable for a group of adults also having a pre or after dinner drink.

I met my son for lunch in SF and we to 54 Mint based on a friend's recommendation. It's located in an older building right next to the SF Mint so the atmosphere is very nice. The menu was not huge (a good sign to me) with a good selection. We ended up going with the specials, linguini with ragu... More

Wondered into this place while on a business trip, and found the best Roman restaurant I have ever been to outside of Rome. It has the look & feel of a trattoria in Rome, small & cozy, and with a great all-Italian wine list organized by region. The tripe (yes, it's a quintessential Roman dish) was tender, flavorful and on... More

We made our reservations to arrive at 6:30 PM, plenty of time before our play at the Golden Gate Theater. In fact, we arrived 15 minutes early and were seated downstairs. It was noisy but quaint down there. We had a nice table for two and our served arrived shortly to take our order. We started with the usual glass... More

Very nice atmosphere, yummy wines (we tried 3 different reds) and absolutely outstanding service. Can't overstate how accommodating every staff member was. We loved our small plates to start and I loved my gnocchi. My husband had the carbonara and it was a bit saltier than he'd have liked but tasty. Very conveniently located to the theater also. They were... More

This charming restaurant in an alley south of Market was a great find before the theatre last night. Started with a beet salad which was very good. For entrees we had the risotto which was perfectly cooked but the asparagus sauce needed a little umph. However the pasta with porcini mushrooms was absolutely fantastic. Desert was a cheese tort and... More

"What do you recommend?" A simple question but to a knowledgeable waiter like Salvatore it revealed a lovely asparagus appetizer a remarkable Sardinian red wine and pasta bistec gelati even after dinner drink that were new unique and eye opening All the staff were sweet. Young couples crowd. Obviously really capable chef. Not too much salt and subtle balanced flavors... More

After being in town for several days for a conference and experiencing "meh" food as recommended by the hotel concierge, we found 54 Mint by surfing the web. We were having a late dinner (8:45) and were able to book a table no problem. Immediately when we walked in the place smelled heavenly. We were promptly greeted and directed to... More

I went there twice, once alone and sat at the bar and took the friendly bartender's recommendations for a salad and an appetizer, both delicious. Salad was the "Arance e Rapette", fresh, admirably prepared and presented, delicious. The pork belly appetizer was on the menu, delicious but little meat, cooked perfectly. Returned another night with relatives and sat downstairs. Fun... More

I was born and raised in Milan, I am very picky when it comes to Italian food, I can guarantee this is IT! The atmosphere is fabulous, the staff is extremely friendly and the dinner was incredible! Jacopo welcomed us with a smile (and a hug when he found out I was Italian), Vincenzo and Adriano took care of the... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
