We had great expectations for this place but only the pasta dishes were tasty. The asparagus burrata was ok, the ahi tuna had no flavor and the pizza was very average and way too expensive. Service was very good so I will give this place another try ..

We were looking for someplace close to our Russian Hill neighborhood hotel on a rainy Friday night. No reservations and there were no tables available, but the warm and friendly hostess managed to find a spot for us. The atmosphere was energetic and boisterous in a good way and the service was calm, attentive, informative and friendly- never feeling rushed.... More

Gioia pizzeria in Russian Hill's is a great place to visit on a Saturday night. I went with my children and we had pizza and lasagna. The service was a little slow. The lasagna was the best lasagna I've had in over 10 years. The sauce was bread sopping good.

This is a fun restaurant in Russiona Hill. The portions are good for sharing. We split the Arugula salad and a Salsicca pizza. We were there on a Sunday night and it was almost full. Both indies and outside dining. Friendly, prompt service.

Gioia Pizzeria was good! Quaint little restaurant in Russian Hill. We were in town for one day and came across Gioia and stopped in, we didn't have reservations but they said that didn't matter because they were slow (it was election night). The place was quieter than I'd expect but likely because everyone was glued to their phones (us included).... More

The atmosphere is casual yet upscale; there is a wonderful energy in the restaurant. We didn't have reservations so took a seat at the bar which turned out be especially fun because we could see the high-energy, amazingly efficient chefs and kitchen staff at work; the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed their Wild Mushroom Pizza and a... More

This is a lovely setting to catch up with friends over a slice. The smaller pizzas were more than enough for 2 gals to share. There were nice varieties. Service was impeccable. We were lucky to be seated in the window front so it was a bit quieter. The only drawback for me was the washrooms which were not well... More

Hadn't booked, but they fitted us in no problem, although was midweek so that might have helped. The waitress helpfully suggested a 14" pizza would be plenty for both of us to share and it sure was, just couldn't manage the 8th slice between us ! the pizza itself was nothing out of the ordinary, but wasn't anything wrong with... Simple food with a modern twist - so fresh and delicious! We had the prosciutto melon salad, margerita pizza (soo good) and paperadelle. All perfect! Pizza is a oven cooked with flat base so really light. Highly recommend for a casual night out with friends with quality food and wine - great prompt service too!

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
