First of all, no credit cards accepted, so before you wait in line, make sure you have cash! We got in line at 9 am on a Saturday and felt like we were going to pass out by the time we got in, waited at least 2 hours. The line outside is always long and once you get inside, don't... More

You have to go to Mama's simply to say you have. We waited for an hour but it was sunny and the people around us in good form.Once in we had eggs benedict, fruit and smoked salmon. We shared the dishes. The food is fine, the ambiance fine and the location central. Try it. You won't be disappointed.

This place truly is worth the wait. I would recommend waking up a little earlier on the weekend and standing in line about 30 minutes before they open. We did that and ended up waiting about an hour until the food was ready, which wasn't bad because it was incredible. I recommend trying and sharing a couple things. We walked... More

My wife and I got to Mama's about 9:00 on a Friday morning and waited for about an hour to get a table. We weren't in a hurry, so it really wasn't a big deal as we just enjoyed being outside in the nice weather. We ordered the dungeness crab omelette which came with toast and fried potatoes and also... We arrived to Mama's at about 7:15 a.m. by accident because we were wide awake early and still on Central time. It turned out to be a wonderful accident because we were about the 5th couple in line. By the time it opened and we found a seat, we heard a waitress tell someone that the last person in line... More

Don't wait until you're hungry to get in line! 2 people for a Thursday morning @ 9:10 took 35 minutes to order and another 30 minutes for french toast to arrive. But oh, my, what amazing french toast it was!! Almost as good as the wait was long. We shared cranberry nut and the nut brioche. I've heard there's a... More

We waited in line for an hour to get in, and it wasn't even on a weekend! The food was delicious, and you get a lot of it, but I'm not 100% sure I would be willing to do it again and wait quite that long.

We got there on a Sunday at 8am right when it opened, and had to wait for almost two hours to be seated. But the atmosphere is fun and the food fantastic and well priced! Chocolate Cinnamon French Toast is to die for.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
