Well firstly I should say we were there as part of a food walking tour so only sampled a portion of food. It was the kale, which was not to my liking as it had a dairy free sauce on top. My husband and I had such fun here tonight! Was knocked out by Cuban guest pianist Chuchito Valdés, regular Eddie Navia, and the Pachamama Band. A lot of talent and energy on that stage! The menu surprised me because I didn't expect a two sided menu that had vegan/gluten-free offerings on one side and raw vegan/gluten-free choices on the other.... More

Loved this South American restaurant that stayed open for us to eat and chat well beyond closing time. Was here last week. Pena has a romantic ambience and lounge feel to its seating arrangements. All in all I will repeat when I'm next in San Francisco.

Stunning food , even the non vegans thought the food was excellent and really interesting. You can choose cooked or "live" i.e. raw. We went cooked and every starter was a delight. But leave room for desserts! I looked at the menu of cheescake, brownies and ice cream and apologised to the waitress that I couldn't eat any of it!... More

Visited here after seeing the reviews on Happy Cow. We went at lunch which was very quiet but the welcome was warm. They have a good menu of all vegan, gluten-free South American food. Everything we tasted was delicious and we will certainly return one evening to hear the music. The restaurant has a great history too.

I had a lovely meal here after seeing Beach Blanket Babylon. We arrived fairly late on a Sunday evening but this was not a problem, we were recommended some items from the menu which were absolutely delicious. There was a cooked menu and a raw menu which looked amazing. We missed the entertainment on this occasion which is a shame.... More

The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
