If you love food, then check the place out. The chef is amazing. Both Andy and Jan who own/operate the place are delightfully friendly. If you like beer and singing with complete strangers over a few beers in a boot, then this is your place. I can't say even about the experience I've had, and I've even gone during October... More

Schroeder's is set a bit off California Street in an unassuming location. Interior reminds me of a dining Hall in Bavaria. Great looking bar with a warm atmosphere for a dining room. Service was good, food was very good. Bring your appetite as portions could feed 2! Authentic German...great quality! Don't miss the Jager Schnitzel!

At one time, German beers enjoyed very positive reputations, but the advent of countless wonderful American Craft beers sets a new bar for both flavor and quality. Added to this is the reputation of German food: it’s OK, but no one ever calls it cuisine. Against these challenges, Schroeder’s offers itself as a German Bar, specializing in German food and... Well, Schroeder's was once a solid German restaurant with real German food, a fine selection of German beer, expert service and satisfied customers. Now it has been reimagined as a noisy bar with sort-of-German pub food. The customers enjoy the largest containers of beer I've ever seen, and seem content with the snacks and the small selection of entrees. The... More

We love schroeder's. We visit every time we go to San Fran. (twice a year)... We usually have a group of 15-20 and the long tables are perfect to accommodate us all together. Food is german and delicious. This time we did apps and they never disappoint. Beer is the drink of choice, but have a good choice of house... More

I have lived and worked in Munich and am a fan of Bavarian food. Delighted, then, to find this place in downtown SanFrancisco. The food menu was disappointing with staples such as schnittlauchbrot and obatzda nowhere to be found as one would ordinarily find in an establishment such as this. I ordered the Jaegerschnitzel, which was ok, but my side... More

I had the pleasure of visiting Schroeder's just hours before my plane back to Charlotte,NC. A co-worker said we absolutely had to go. The appetizers were very good as well as the staff, but the icing on the cake was Das Boot..If you don't know what it is, try 100 ounces of beer. The waiter suggested I mix two beers,... More

Food was good but is inconsistent in its preparation. Deserts were awful and overpriced (had to be defrosted which took about 20 minutes). Service was awful. Wait staff doesn't seem to have any knowledge of the menu or possibilities of substitutions, they get involved in talking to customers of their age so you can't get their attention.... Restaurant has an... More

Nice spacious area with a good size bar. Excellent variety of imported beers and some nice local craft beer as well. Also a well stocked bar. The food is German with a local twist and very satisfying. My favorite thing was beer served by the liter. Smaller sizes also available. I'll definitely be back.

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
