After a long day walking around Fishermans wharf we stumbled across this place as we walked back to our hotel. The gnocchi and papadelle boscaiola was delicious and the bruschetta was the best I've eaten.

Ordered pizza and pasta, pasta arrived 5 minutes earlier than the pizza which wasn't good, the food was also not good quality and then I noticed the manager or waiter stood outside with a menu trying to get customers to come in and face the same poor food as us... poor them!

Given the reviews we had high hopes for this restaurant but we were really disappointed with the food, we had Parma ham and melon to start and the melon was very old. I had ravioli pasta which was swimming in sauce and lacked flavour. Service was good but the food needs to be improved.

Maybe the chef was having an off day as unfortunately our family thought the food here was mediocre! The pasta dishes were average, the sauce on the chicken dish was thin and watery and overly sweet and the pizza was hard - as if it had been sitting on a warming plate for a while. On the plus side, the... More

Great food in fun location. Had family dinner to celebrate last night in San Francisco. Authentic Italian food for reasonable price, good service even though restaurant was full. Lots of choices in North Beach, highly recommend this for fun night.

Loved this cozy little Italian restaurant and it's interesting decor. Their lasagna was delicious, and I wish I could have had room for one of their delicious looking desserts. Service was good and the owner even went out and flagged a taxi for us afterwards. Highly recommend it.

I've been visiting this restaurant almost every time I come to SF, and I can't believe it's been more than 20 years. I remembered they used to roll out a giant drum of cheese and serve/chipped it right in front of your table, and it was an unique experience. I have not visited SF in the recent years, this time... Definitely recommend! Amazing, authentic, fresh Italian food prepared daily by the owner primarily and his staff. Great service. Lovely little dining room lit with sundry Tiffany lights. We tried to entice them home to NC, but our annual one snowfall presented a barrier!

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
