Service 2*: almost got served dirty utensils. The cashier/waitress seemed annoyed to have a job. Food 3*: portions were nicely generous. Food tasted good, but they forgot capers on my otherwise delicious Lox bagel. The waffle was crispy but a bit dense. Coffee was decent. Location 4*: just a skip from the busier wharf, this corner gig was easy to... More

Cafe Francisco is one of the nicer breakfast places near the Wharf in SF. They have great ambience, nice selection of coffees and breakfast items with both indoor and curb-side seating. The portions are nice and really worth the price. Would definitely recommend eating here once if you are in the area.

This is one of those great places that all the locals know about but the tourists walk right past. In the summer there is nothing better than enjoying one of the outside tables with a cold beer. Inside it just looks like any corner coffee shop but it has a large menu of salads, sandwiches, and specials that are delicious.

We stopped here for lunch while visiting the neighborhood. Our sandwiches were very tasty and unexpectedly filling. I also had an iced espresso, which was OK, and they only gave me a glass of water with the greatest reluctance. Docked one star for the attitude at the counter and for the tables, which could have been a little cleaner.

Great little coffee shop with boutique food choices, they even allowed my kids to use the restroom without buying anything.... Love it!

This place is great! Located in the Italian area, the dishes are big and great, three different kind of coffee, love the oven backed egg and bacon

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
