This is a small, order at the counter cafe. We went to the H twice and both times we were warmly welcomed. Had breakfast sandwich and coffee. On our second visit we just got a bagel and croissant to go. It was conveniently located near our rental.

I live very close by to H cafe, so this is a neighborhood type of review. Perhaps not relevant for tourists looking for fancy-schmacy high end San Francisco style coffee alchemy. H cafe, run by the sweetest coffee man this side of the mission (Hassan), is the type of old-school neighborhood place that is hard to find nowadays. It's a... More

My favorite cafe in the city! This is my first yelp review but I just had to spread teh good news. Cheerful, sunny atmosphere, plenty of space and outlets if you want to study. The owner, Has, is the best part: he creates a kind of 'Cheers' mentality where he knows all the patrons who come in and all the... More

I was staying at the Hotel Carlton down the street, and found this a charming little place to grab a wonderful breakfast bagel sandwich - -thick with ham -- and get a very tasty cup of coffee before trudging off to my business meetings. I came back every morning after I found them my second day in town.

One of only a few little cafés where we got porcelain cups and great coffee! We went there nearly every day to have a nice breakfast.

As in most cities there is no shortage of places to fill your face and quench your thirst but this place and the people in it made me smile. Great coffee and excellent cakes and sandwiches, plus wait for it craft beers as well. The staff were welcoming and made us feel like locals after 5 minutes. Situated on a... More

We spent a couple of evenings here on a week holiday from England. Guy behind the counter was friendly and had lived in England. Nice vibe. The 3pm till 10pm happy hour with Anchor Steam for less than $2 was a bonus. Try you won't be disappointed. As with the previous reviewer, I visited the one in the tenderloin area

We stopped in the Cup A Joe location near union square in the tenderloin district, and it was a welcome, relaxing break at happy hour. Anchor steam beer on tap for 2 bucks. Good sandwich for a snack before heading out for the night. Very friendly folks. Thanks guys!

Staying in The Castro

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
