We had lunch and continued walking up Columbus Avenue figuring on stopping for dessert. We walked by this place and I could smell the wonders from inside. We went in and had a strawberry shortcake and a caramel cappuccino. We got a set near the window where we watched people go by. Amazing!!! If I lived in SF I would... More

Light, fluffy, airy, hugely bad for you... these are all the superlatives one can use about Stella. Try the Sacrepantina, Cannoli, Tiramisu or any of the traditional Italian biscuits. They're all fresh and fabulous. Coffee is available as well, but this is a pastry shop plain and simple.

Lovely Italian pastry cafe. Tiramisu, Chocolate Fedora, Cream Horn, Napoleon..... Cannoli is a bit sweet for my taste though.

On a street filled with Italian restaurants and cafes, Stella's did not stand out. The pastries were ok and the coffee was good. Atmosphere was fine, nothing fancy.

As any European I struggle with bakeries in US, the cakes are usually extra sweet and very fatty. Great I discovered this place! The cakes are freshly made delicious and not fatty, the coffee is good, the staff is very nice and the tables are picture perfect! Will be back again and again!

I've been in this place many times and I tried at least once every product sell. They all taste really good and authentic, apart from their Tiramisú, which is horrible. The fruit tarts are simply amazing!

We love coming to this part of the city... We love Stella's and they always have a cabinet full of fresh yummy goodies. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait but it is worth it. Try their pinenut cookies, they are the best!

While traveling San Francisco we were never hungry, with so many amazing places to eat that is pretty much all we did! After lunch one day we walking in China town and then into Little Italy and we came across Stellas. We had eclairs, cannoli's and tiramasu. They were all wonderful. We ran into a lady on the street claiming... More

We stopped in here after dinner to have dessert. They have so many choices. We two different types of cakes and cannoli and they were all so good. The cake just melt in your mouth. I also liked that what we had was not sugary at all. It is a very small place with limited seating both inside and outside.... More

Whenever I am in San Francisco, I make it a point to have at least one meal in either Chinatown or North Beach (the Italian neighborhood). The food is usually good and both areas are within walking distance to Stella Pastry and Cafe! Their homemade cannolis are absolutely to die for, with flavorful fillings and very crispy shells. If you... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
