We would have awarded this establishment more stars, had we not have had the worst customer service we’ve experienced in Boston (or anywhere for that matter). Food was fantastic. Drinks were average. Atmosphere was like an old school American diner. However, the service was absolutely...shocking. In particular, one waitress (the older of the two) went out of her way to be so rude, obnoxious and unhelpful. Serving us was obviously a massive inconvenience for her, especially when having to answer questions we had about the menu. We are on holiday celebrating with my mum and dad (both over 60) and she couldn’t even give them a minute to decide what they’d like to eat and instead huffed and puffed when they were undecided. After being so unpleasant, we decided not to leave her a tip (despite tipping in every other establishment we’ve been, as is the custom). She chased us out the door and demanded “in Boston you tip your servers”. Well, in England you’re tipped on your level of service and hers was appalling! Get rid of her and the place would be great! What a shame, since we’d been looking forward to it and she just about ruined our morning with her aggressive attitude!More

This cute little diner was within walking distance of were we stayed in Back bay. The food was good. The manager (assuming) was very polite and helpful explained some of the items on the menu. The order was quick to come out and was reasonably...priced. It is small not a lot of seats but wasn't crowded when we were thereMore

Gotta say we really loved it. Charlie’s was a short distance from our hotel and worth the walk. Situated in a residential area on the back bay, this quaint diner is a step back in time. Limited inside and outside seating but a short wait...to get a table. We were there for breakfast and had several selections. All very good. On top of that, a very nice and helpful wait staff.More

I read the reviews and wondered about the negative ones I read, but I like to draw my own opinion. I'm glad I did, too, because we otherwise would have missed a great breakfast and some very friendly staff. All I can say is go...try it yourself and give it a fair chance. Their prices are very good, as is the food. The setting is a bit small, but that's part of its charm. Reminiscent of the 1960's and 70's. If you found this review helpful, please tap the thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!More

If you happen to find yourself walk down the street and see this place don’t bother stopping. Staff was extremely rude, I travel for work and never in my whole life have I been asked in front of other customers if I was going to...tip throw my credit card, the waitress hadn’t know that a cash tip was left, also when asked a simple question she seemed to be quiet rude, stay clear of the place 👎👎👎More

It was first time ordering from Charlie's, and I must say I wasn't that impressed. I made my order through uber eats; I ordered a BLT with a fried egg white. When I called to confirm the egg white because the sandwich comes with regular...fried egg the host was a little rude. However, she did apologize and stated that it was extremely busy. For the food I received it was wayyyy to much money. BLT sandwich $16.99 a side of corn beef hash $8.49 and chicken wrap $16.99. I seen prior reviews and that's what made me try them, but I won't again. I don't mind paying for food, I'm a foodie at heart but make it worth it.More

Authentic breakfasts. So many options to choose from, but make sure you go when you are hungry as the portions are huge. Refillable coffee and efficient service. Closer to Back Bay Area than you think. We visited three times, 2 as a couple and once...with our son.More

This place is a Boston landmark. They have been around since 1927 slinging turkey hash & breakfast & lunch diner classics. It’s fun just to look at all the pictures on the walls of everyone who has visited here. What did I have? The turkey...has of course with eggs, home-fries, and raisin rye bread.More

Visited here twice for breakfast whilst on holiday in Boston last December. It’s a great place with lots to choose from. I have the banana bread french toast on my 1st visit (portion was huge was so delicious) and had corned beef hash browns and...eggs on my 2nd visit. Both visits were great and we will definitely be back when we are back in Boston in the near futureMore

We were staying in an Airbnb nearby and went here for breakfast. Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Lovely people. I bought one of their mugs as a memento as it was my husband’s 60th birthday that day. When we were at the airport...at the end of our holiday about to board the plane, I dropped the bag with the mug in and it sadly smashed. I emailed Sheree at Charlie’s and she very kindly posted a replacement mug to us in the UK. What a star! We would thoroughly recommend a visit to Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe if you want to experience a great American diner.More

This was a good, clean diner with a variety of choices for breakfast and lunch. Waitresses were friendly and efficient. I ordered a portabella, avocado panini while my daughter had a breakfast special with a nutter butter shake, everything was great. It's a little small...inside but was an off time so it worked out fine. We got a table as soon as we walked in.More

We were attracted to the facade of this restaurant as it looked well-established. Cute corner looking place, very ephemeral. Walked in, only about seven tables available in the entire restaurant and about 12 counter seats. One cook working the grill. We went for breakfast and...ordered corned beef hash Benedict, an assortment of omelets and other things. Seemed very promising as the place opened in 1927 and by the way was spotless in terms of cleanliness. Food took a while to arrive, when it did, orders were incorrect, no biggie as we could roll with the punches. Food temperatures were mediocre as was the food itself. Friendly service, but incorrect order taking. Had high hopes but after all, it was just breakfast and no harm no foul. Maybe we were there on an off-day. Overall just okay.More
