MICHELIN Bib Gourmand: Good quality, good value cooking
This elder member of David Chang’s culinary empire is hipper and hotter than ever. A honey-toned temple of updated comfort food, decked with wood counters and a sparkling open kitchen, the service here may be brisk. But rest assured, as the menu is gutsy and molded with Asian street food in mind. Those steamed buns have amassed a gargantuan following thanks to decadent fillings like moist pork loin kissed with Hollandaise and chives. Additionally, that bowl of springy noodles doused in a spicy ginger-scallion sauce is just one instance of the crew’s signature work. Other items, including desserts like candy apple truffle, are beautifully crafted and rightfully elevated to global fame.

I have been let down time and time again in my quest for good ramen in the East Village. I have tried Ippudo, it felt like a night club or something that belongs in Vegas. TabeTomo let me down worse than Chance the Rappers "The Big Day" album. I was beginning to think I would have to make the trek to Ichiran or Tonchin in Midtown to get some good ramen. Momofuku has restored my hope. I avoided it a few times because y'all rated it 3.5 stars, but I should have known at the end of the day you can only trust yourself. I walked in alone and was seated at the bar immediately, delighted by the open kitchen. An open kitchen really gets me going. I went with the smoked pork ramen and watched them cook my pork right in front of me to perfection. The broth was light, but still extremely flavorful. I'm sick of a heavy broth tbh. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." However, I would argue that if you gaze into the abyss long enough, you will begin to see the light. Momofuku is the light in the East Village ramen abyss. THANK YOU MOMOFUKU! What an incredible delicious Ramen noodle dish and bao bao buns. The waitstaff was very friendly and we had a fun pickled vodka cocktail with dill. The chicken ramen dish, the mushroom buns were all very filling and delicious. Make a reservation since it is a smaller restaurant. We went on a Wednesday night and happy we made a reservation.

This review is for the Columbus Ave location. My wife and I ate dinner at Momofuku last night. We had a 5:00 reservation and walked uptown after seeing a Broadway show. If you do not have a reservation, I recommend arriving when it opens at 5:00 as there was a long waiting line by 5:30. The service was friendly and attentive and the prices are in the mid-range. We split an order of shrimp buns, I had the pork ramen which had 1/2 inch thick strips of pork, and my wife had a ginger noodle dish. The food was very tasty and I highly recommend going there.

As a David Chang fan we were excited to try his Asian fusion take on New York affordable noodles in Columbia Circle. While David is Korean his cooking is influenced by his training at the Cordon Bleu and his mom’s kitchen. You can’t help but want to give him a hug with his affectionate smile and robust laugh. Personality aside, the menu he offers genuinely reflects his passion for food and curiosity in culinary culture. Ok…on with the review of what we ate. We had the ramen, rooster rice, broccolini and the shishito peppers of which the latter never came. The dishes arrived as the kitchen finished them (typical to Asian service) and were served family style. The portions may seem small for robust appetites but were sufficient for us. The flavors were full of character. the chicken was crispy. and the ramen and egg cooked to that nice sweet spot of al dente. Loved everything. As a bar, the music was loud and energetic, perhaps to keep customers moving through quickly. The marquee above the bar changed every 15-20 seconds and advertised various menu items. Our server was friendly and professional. The tables had plexiglass partitions and all the servers were masked. If you like this, read David Changa book or check out past editions of lucky peach.

My first Momofuku experience. Was really excited to try the ramen here. Firstly we ordered a good selection of appetizers to share. Cucumber salad, tuna crudo, shrimp bao, deep fried chicken wings. Everything was amazing and the chicken wings are really large. We wished that we can order more varieties to share but there was only 4 of us. The serving staff at our table was really helpful to inform us if the dishes ordered was enough or too much. Then of course we had ramen and spicy dry noodles - loved it. . Reservations is required as the restaurant is always busy. 5 stars for the food and service.

Two of us with a reservation. Received a friendly greeting and immediate seating in a bustling hip dining room. Have the option of bar or shared table. Server was very friendly and helpful. They had a special "Crispy Chicken" which was a whole chicken fried and split over some greens and sauce (sorry not more detailed than tat). We also ordered the Spicy Mushroom Ramen and Extra Spicy Tuna Hand Roll. So for us the chicken and the Ramen were a miss. There was a bitterness to the chicken that was unexpected and certainly not complimentary. The Spicy Mushroom broth was also a miss just trying too hard and "in your face" (not too spicy but just too many flavors and reminiscent of an over-salted entree). The Hand Roll was nice. Chef David Chang has gained signifiant notoriety and praise. I hope this was just a "bad night for the kitchen" and not a slide in quality of product relying on reputation. But again......terrific staff and environment!

This spot is the original restaurant under Chef David Chang who has emerged as a leading voice in the US culinary world. It was a trend setter: no tablecloths, limited menu, casual/simple decor, and no fussy presentations. There are very good veg dishes such as spicy ginger scallion ramen noodles, shiitake buns, spicy mushroom ramen along with meat and fish ramen and buns. Located in the East Village on 1st Ave between 10th and 11th Streets. Very close to Venerio's Italian pastry, a New York institution for Italian cookies and desserts.

Nice clean interior compared to the grunginess of the street and surrounding establishments. Sign is small so pay attention to the address (for us visitors). Staff very welcoming and very friendly. Smoked pork ramen was suggested over the chicken but we eventually ordered both to try both out. Both very good but definitely preferred the pork. Also had the two daily specials ( octopus on a celery/humus bed and the curried duck). Both very nice flavours although the octopus was more of an appetizer but had an entree price. Tried also the buns (shrimp). It was good but have had better. The shrimp patty was a little thin and the pickled garnish was very subdued. Would go with the pork buns in the future (based on how well the chiasu in the ramen was) Our server was fantastic (forgot his name). But very friendly and extremely polite.

We were staying at the hotel in the building so we decided to just order for pickup and eat dinner in our room. It took about an hour, but that's about average for a busy Sunday night. When we arrived, they had forgotten a couple of the items we ordered, but the host did the right thing: she apologized, rushed those two items, and we were able to get out of there about 10 mins. later. The food was great, and worth the wait!

We visited this restaurant with family and close friends. They take reservations over a app. Reservations are highly recommend due to long wait times. This is a tiny restaurant with limited seating. The host was very courteous. We started with drinks soju lychee which was well flavored. We shared some small plates cucumber salad, wings, chicken nuggets..all the dishes came with with a unique twist. The highlight was the chicken bun with a delicious sauce. We had garlic ramen as well as cold noodles, definitely filling and umami flavor. We enjoyed the prompt service, the care for disinfecting around us and caution of wearing masks when serving us. It was an enjoyable lunch experience.

Visited Momofuku for lunch and ordered a caramelised mushroom bin which was cooked in front of me on a girdle with pork right next to it and everything tossed with the same ladles. Very disappointed. When I specifically mentioned that I was vegetarian, the dishes will could order. And this if what I saw in front of my eyes.

Honestly....I was unfamiliar with a lot of this food. So I let my daughter do the ordering. I ordered the chicken garlic ramen bowl, thinking that was a safe choice. I LOVED this place...We ordered shrimp and pork belly buns....dear lord it was delicious! I usually do not like curry, but the corn in curry sauce was delicious. The deconstructed sushi was also very good. The Ramen bowl was good, but salty. I should have just let her order everything! We sat at the bar by the window and the service was amazing. The nights special drink was a pineapple concoction (no idea of the name) but it was very good. Next trip to NYC, this will be on my list of places to go.

F@ckin delicious buns. Go here for some amazing food that’ll fill your belly and make you feel like you’re made of tastebuds. However, it’s a bit cramped, the lines are a bit long, and it’s a bit expensive for what it is.

I just love how they don’t overdo their food. Let the ingredients shine! No frills ramen with really good broth. I don’t have good photos of the pork belly buns… try it if you end up going to a momofuku. So good!

Very small atmosphere, reservations required, tables very close to each other, with the possibility of sitting at the counter. Excellent service, especially by American standards. Delicious food, but nothing special, well served dishes.

East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
