Sapporo East is now gone. New restaurant taking its place is called Beronberon, similar menu, slightly more expensive, more sleek decor both inside and out. Most interesting aspect is - restaurant sign in Japanese only. No shortage of customers however, totally packed on the weekends.

While I have never been blown away by the majority of dishes I have had at Sapporo East the Curry Udon is mind-blowingly good. I could eat this dish a couple of times a week and in fact have done just that. To start try...More

This is a small restaurant at the corner of 10th and 1st Ave that we've been to many times over the years whenever we are visiting our friends in the East Village. It's inexpensive, the food and service always reliable, and the simple decor could...More

We visited Sapporo East on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The quality of food was not the same as it was before. The salad and the rice were not fresh. The tables were not as clean as before. The service was exceedingly slow, we were there at...More

We ate here twice during our stay and found the food very good. The company (the tables are very close together!) was also very interesting especially the young New Yorker called Dave with gf Tammie and sister Sheena who unbeknown to us paid for our...More

Back in the day( the 90's) this place was one of our favorites for sushi, so after visiting the old neighborhood we stopped in for dinner. We were telling our son how Mommy and Daddy used come here for great meals when we were dating,...More

East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village,
which offers plenty of unique small businesses
catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college
students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the
old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still
experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned
shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of
the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to
