it's a tie between what was worse - the food or the service ! My friend ordered the salmon - it was RAW in the middle - completely uncooked. I ordered the rigatoni w/Vodka sauce - one piece was hot - another bite was barely warm - which means it was microwaved - that should tell you ALOT about this... More

Probably the best Italian restaurant I been to in US and Australia both things i ordered were some of the best I've had of each, they also give you free bread with a dipping dressing that was crazy good and wish i knew what it was. Good atmosphere would def come back whenever I'm back in new York

Decided to give this place a second chance after a first visit that included indifferent service and mediocre food. This time I was served a watery underdressed Caesar salad. When I asked the waiter for more dressing,he said they didn't do that with the lunch special What????? I decided to leave. The waiter wanted me to pay for the untouched... More

We went to La Carbonara thinking they'd have good Italian food and boy was it a waste of time and money. The fried calamari was good and that's the only reason why I'm giving it two stars. The entrees were terrible. We had Mushroom Risotto and that was tasteless then the Spaghetti Carbonara wasn't good. You'd think that having that... More

One of my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Food is out of this world and the sangrias are amazing. I recommended to anyone.

We were a bit hesitant to bring in two young girls (6 and 9) for dinner but they were treated like princesses and loved every bit of the attention - it was a real "night out" for them. And there were sufficient choices for them. Good choices (for the adults) on reasonably priced Italian wines, and overall the main courses... More

Perhaps it's because it was Sunday night, but La Carbonara was definitely out of its grove last night. Disorganized service and middling food were a surprise as, for years, La Carbonara could be relied upon for a decent meal at a decent price. Since my last visit, they've also redecorated and, what used to be a pleasant, dark and adult... More

My friend and I booked a table at the La Carbonara. We are fond of Italian food so we thought that we'd give it a try but utterly disappointed with the terrible food and appalling service. This was a total waste of an evening and I guess we will not be returning to this place to eat even for free.

Very good Italian food on 14th St and 7th Ave - steps from the subway. This is well worth a stop. You can't beat the price and the quality. Their Happy Hour Manhattan was jumbo size. Their bolognese sauce to die for. I will certainly be back!

For me this represents a decent, "let's eat out in the neighborhood" restaurant. The service is friendly, the food is dependable and promply comes out of the kitchen, the wine list reasonable for the city. Don't expect anything out of the ordinary, this in times past would be described as a "red table cloth, Chianti bottle with a candle restaurant."... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
