This is one of my fave places in New York I love it . The tea smoke duck is great accompanied with a glass of wine.

This was our second dinner at La Vie En Szechuan. I didn't write a review the last time because I didn't know the name. We remembered vaguely where the restaurant was and found it again this evening. It's not far from the Empire State Building. The food and atmosphere are anything BUT Americanized. It's authentic and delicious. We enjoyed beer... More

Adored it but don't with anyone who doesn't eat pork or doesn't like very spicy! No reservations so pick an off-peak time so you dont have to wait in line.

I have lunched chicken in three kind of peppers. I was warned at the card it was spicy, and it was. If not used to spicy food, find something else on the card. But I really liked it, great taste not overwhelmed by the spiciness. When again in NY, I will definitely return to this restaurant near Empire State Building... More

When asked if you want a special appetizer sampler say no!!! It was beautiful display with unique food, but they don't tell you the price. Our bill comes and it is $90. OMG! It wasn't worth that much. Dinner itself was delicious and worth it.

We found this place by accident, after a visit to the Empire State building. We were the only non Chinese in there, which is always a good sign. The menu sign outside was written in Chinese. The food was excellent, and the service very good. They remembered us on our second visit. This is a place to add to your... More

We were lucky, having looked for a special restaurant, we happened to find this small Asian place, and were lucky! We were almost the only "foreigners" in the restaurant, all the other guests were Chinese. Says something about being authentic! It felt like in Guangzhou. I ate a Mapu Tofu with normal heat (they warned me, that it was spicy... More

We love spicy Chinese food but it has to be very authentic. We lived in China so we are picky about authenticity. This restaurant was just perfect for us. Their food was excellent and the customers were almost all Chinese- a good sign!

Table envy is my term for seeing something on an adjacent table that looks like it might be even more interesting and pleasing than what your table has ordered! In this absolutely superb (and habitually crowded) restaurant I suspect I am not the only person to have experienced this eighth deadly sin. In the particular instance I have in mind,... More

I felt rushed... but in all fairness, my party arrived at 9:30pm. The kitchen closes at 10pm on a Friday night. Without opening the menu, I asked the waitstaff for things to recommend. Navigating in bad Cantonese, the waitress was able to steer us to non-Americanized Chinese food. They gave us proper Sichuan food with dumplings (紅油水餃), stir fried popcorn... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
