Famous take on French bistro. Always busy and vibrant with a sense of something special. The food is great in an American twist on French. The seafood platter is the house special. The wine list is extensive and varied mostly French. We have visited many times but booking is essential.

Had a great Sunday brunch and food was excellent as always. Also enjoyed a birthday brunch there 2 years ago. This is the one place I go whenever I am in New York to be sure of great food, fantastic ambiance and Parisian bistro decor.

Great hopes for this wise man. Sadly it seems that this restaurant thrives on reputation and to 'be seen' there rather than fundamental quality, value and basic hospitality knowledge. Your steak frites at $41 is a rump - this is not advertised on the menu and one has to pry to get this information.(Rump a much lesser cut than, say,... More

We were recomended by a friend to come to this great restaurant with a European design. We were attended by lovely Jenisa who helped us choose the food and a great Pinot noir from borgonhe. Try the cheeseburger!

We came here to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. We made reservations about two months in advance and told them it was her 21st birthday. Well, did they rise to the occasion! When we arrived, M. Voudier (?) the maitre'd told us our table was not ready but it would just be a few minutes. We had a drink at... More

Old school, busy restaurant, but still soulful! The food was delicious and the wine amazing. So fun just to sit and look at the people. I highly recommend it, but be sure to book a table in advance.

We just came back from Sunday brunch at Balthazars and it didn't disappoint. The old French cafeteria style room was beautifully decorated and the staff was quick, friendly and pleasant. Food is quite pricy $100 for two bennies, coffee and 2 beer.... worth every penny. My only complaint was the hostess... she didn't fit the charm. She was cold and... More

We have been going to Balthazars for 15 years, For special occasions, not "regulars" by any means. Every year it becomes, more crowded with less care being given to the patrons, but we and hundreds of others keep coming for the food, the charm, the atmosphere....... today was the end. We did not have reservations, we were told 3:00pm -... More

Staying in SoHo

Neighbourhood Profile
Once the artistic hub of New York City, SoHo (South of Houston) is now one of the premiere shopping destinations in the world. Housing everything from the most popular luxury brands to swank boutiques you won’t find anywhere else, this is a sophisticated shopper’s dream come true. Broadway teems with big-name stores and people during the day, while Prince and Spring Streets are the other main drags to explore by foot. Take a detour down the quieter side streets to see the real star of the district –majestic cast-iron architecture everywhere you look. What were once warehouses and art studios are now meticulously restored loft buildings favored by many of New York’s celebrities, making SoHo one of the trendiest addresses in the city. The pretty streets of Nolita (North of Little Italy) offer a more sedate vibe, with plenty of tiny boutiques and hip restaurants to seek out.
