Went for a quick dinner on a Thursday night. Humble but well tended and calm ambiance, nice service and friendly staff. We ordered a platter for 2, with lots of veggies (beets, collard greens, split peas), and the chicken and lamb. And a couple of Ethiopian amber beers. Wow. What a treat. Everything delicious, they gave us a few extra... More

If you like Ethiopian food, you won't find better. I took away a star because of the wait. Only two women covering a packed restaurant. I had to go get the pitcher if water from the bar, and several if us had to leave our table to find someone to pay our bill. They were pleasant enough, but need to... More

I have been going to Awash Ethiopian Restaurant on Amsterdam Ave ( bet 106 - 107th St ), NYC, for several years, every few months. To be fair to them, it is time to write a review, so long overdue. First let me say , I have been eating Ethiopian food in NYC for decades, at various restaurants, and now... More

We love Ethiopian food and try new restaurants when we travel. This was the second Ethiopian place in NY we ate at and was my favorite. They have two different kinds of sambusas, lentil and potato. We had the lentil, because that it what we are used to. We thought they were delicious! The outside was very flaky and the... More

I have been to at least 6 Ethiopian places that I can name, in Manhattan, multiple times. I have now settled down with Awash as my go to place for Ethiopian food. This is taking into account the quality, quantity, flavor, consistency, price, service, ambience, the seating area. Not going into the details of the food but the injera here... More

This was my first experience at an Ethiopian restaurant, and let me tell you.. I am definitely going back! You eat with your hands, which was definitely new to me.. And the food is served on family style platters. We got a bottle of blackberry honey wine, which to my surprise, was absolutely delicious! We ordered one vegetarian platter for... More

We reserved for an early dinner for a party of 10, including three octogenarians one of whom was celebrating his 89th birthday, in advance of attending the Barnard-Columbia Choir's performance of the Messiah at the nearby Church of the Ascension. We were warmly greeted and seated even though some in our party, enmeshed in the Lincoln Tunnel traffic, arrived later... More

Love this place! My daughter and I always order one vegetarian combo and one meat combo to go and it lasts for days. And recently I took my sister who had never had Ethiopian food and now is raving about it! She also took lots of photos of the paintings of Ethiopian leaders and of the stained glass lamps with...
