Entering, you are pleasantly greeted by the long-standing maitre d', I believe his name is Carmine, as if you were arriving at a friend's home. The warm and friendly atmosphere immediately turns the stress meter down the minute you are seated. Paneled walls are decorated with rare fashion photo spreads of Marilyn Monroe, taken just months before her death. The... More

Have been going annually for several years to meet a group of friends. We only wanted a main course and waited for over an hour before seeing anything to eat. Bread was offered even after that. For our party of six you might think we were open to eating and drinking. They clearly wanted us to drink and not eat.... More

We've been coming here for many years. The food is excellent, the staff extremely professional, and the atmosphere warm and cozy. Even though they have an extensive menu don't be shy about ordering anything Italian you can imagine - they'll make it for you and serve it with pride. I especially like their wine list - extensive and reasonably priced.... More

First came here 5 years ago. And each year there after multiple times. Loved the ambiance, a townhouse. Loved the service. David was the original maitre de and he was charming and welcoming, and the wait staff was professional, and fun. Loved the food, especially the grilled scalloped over polenta and porcini mushrooms. Loved the bread. Loved the wine. Everything... More

When I made the reservation the person answering the phone was very friendly and assuring me that I didn't need to worry about a dress code. (we were stuck in NYC due to snowstorm and all flights were cancelled, so clothing was running out) When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at the romantic atmosphere, fireplace going, candles, people talking... What a sweet place this is, occupying a narrow brownstone with a cozy, warm and classic ambiance befitting the city. The staff and gentleman manager could not have been more gracious. The food is out of this world and priced quite reasonable for its quality and upper east location. If I lived in NYC, I'd be here weekly as a... More

My parents have been going here for decades and always raved about their service and food. I have not been here since my elementary school days, and I frankly do not know why. I found their service to be friendly and attentive. I had there branzino fish fillet with sauce. It was delicate and delicious. It went spectacularly with the... More

Based on a review that I had seen in Forbes Magazine praising this 40 year old italian establishment, we made a reservation to eat there last Friday night. Arriving at 7:15 pm, we discovered that I had mistakenly made it for Saturday night but they graciously accommodated us in a cozy corner table and proceeded to treat us to a... More

Our New York friends suggested this place for lunch. It is very nice and service was attentive - a little more on the formal side. There are options for a fixed price lunch as well as ordering ala carte. The food was plentiful and delicious - nicely presented.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
