We've been coming here for 20 years; now we come with our children. It is delicious and so much fun. Cheap, yummy food on a stick, with $5 glasses of sapporo. Recently we had grilled chicken hearts, sauteed squid legs and these unbelievable skewers with pork and onion, battered and deep fried. Yum. Recommended for all, young and old.

We loved Yokocho. The food was fresh and delicious. We had about 8 different dishes between the 4 of us and everyone was wonderful. I especially liked the tuna and quail eggs.

If you are looking for sushi, Yokocho is not for you---they don't have it on the menu. However, Yokocho is very authentic, you even feel like your in Tokyo---small, bustling, noisy, with a friendly staff. I wasn't familiar with many dishes on the menu so I stuck with what I knew. The seaweed salad, wasn't flavored in advance as I... More

You feel transported to Japan to a Izakaya somewhere in a Japanese city: a small door to enter the place, simple decoration, dim lights and a lot of Japanese memorabilia. Food was simple but tasty, service very friendly. They offer a wide variety of typical Japanese food. A really nice experience.

Yes, you do feel transposed to a little alley around Shinjuku station in Tokyo. Typical Izakaya with fried goods off the griddle (yakitori). The highlight for me was definitely the yaki-onigiri (grilled rice ball), something that is hard to find outside Japan. Sapporo on tap, what else would one want after a day at work? Grilled goods were OK, a... More

If you want to understand the non-sushi side of everyman, Japanese cuisine, Yokocho is a great starting place. this is not fussy gourmet fare, this is terrific comfort food. and for a bonus the wonderful Angel Share bar shares the upstairs space.

Don't blink or you'll walk right past, and that would be a darn shame. Unbelievable selection of delicious plates! I've never had a bad meal here. Service is prompt and efficient, price is right, and the atmosphere is authentic. Don't miss it.

I've been coming here for many years. This is not a fancy place. It's an izakaya style restaurant. This means they have an assortment of dishes, that are meant to be shared, while drinking alcohol. Now that I go with my toddler, I might have a beer or no alcohol, as the food stands on its own. I admit there... More

This is a modestly priced Japanese restaurant that is very popular with young people. It is located on a block that is filled Japanese places. Good food and good sake. Great Japanese ice cream. We have Asian friends who feel that they have been transported to Toyko given the ambience, the food, and the Asian customers. Yakitori is really good.... More

I've had better Miso soup at most Japanese restaurants. Food is average. Loud music if you're into that. Service not remarkable.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
