As Uezu-the chef patron says " number one is number one. All other positions are irrelevant " At seventy one ish he is always present to make sure that Kuruma is in first place. The best sushi restaurant in New York and possibly anywhere. He is definitely on some sort of spectrum because he is absolutely obsessive to detail and... More

Make the reservation to the sushi bar and enjoy. It will be expensive, but you probably had never tried something similar in your life.

I went to this restaurant because a friend recommended it, and it's like being at any Tokyo sushi counter, some of the fish is sourced at Tsukiji Market, and the $65 lunch combination of 9 pieces of sushi and a roll is a great way to try the quality of the sushi at this place. Sushi chef and owner Toshihiro... More

This is a hidden gem on the second floor. We sat at the sushi bar and it was a great experience. It was a tasting menu and the sushi and sashimi just kept coming. It was fresh and tasty and the owner makes the sushi and is amazing! I will absolutely go back and soon. Make reservations!

Only sushi and sashimi. Do not ask this man to put anything in a rice bowl. Do not go for the California rolls (named Kuruma rolls.) This is the best sushi in NYC, which is why you'll find a very simple small dining area full of Wall street guys who made the trip uptown for the experience. Sit at the... More

I would definitely call myself a bit of a sushi snob after traveling to Japan for a few weeks and visiting Jiro, the Tsukiji markets and more, as well as spending the last 10 years in Los Angeles, I think they have some of the best sushi in America, in general, better than the east coast. After researching a few... More

This is a traditional sushi place and the fish was very fresh. I ordered omakase and the chef went on to give me pretty much the best stuff on the house. I have attached photos here so you can judge for yourself. However the bill was a shocker at $380 before tips. I would have thought a more reasonable tab... More

This place isn't cheap, but you'll find this place to be really one of a kind sushi prepared by amazing chefs. Fatty toro and yellow tail at this quality level are difficult to find anywhere outside of Japan. Lunch is the time to go. Dinners can get over $200 per person

Really good sushi and sashimi. First time having Japanese wine which complemented the food wonderfully. We had a seat at the bar watching the chefs prepare the sushi. All very warm and friendly. Not cheap but very good.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
