We arrived at Barbes and it was an error made. They greeted us with such warmth and friendliness we decided to stay and we can not wait to come back. Mediterranean with great Morrocann influence. Absolutely delicious. We started with appetizers to share: a glorious artichoke with a mustard vinegarette, little phylo pouches stuffed with chicken and almounds, a layered... More

Had a wonderful time on Tuesday at Barbes restaurant. We were 6 including 3 kids and took the couscous, couscous royal and some tajine. The food was delicious, the wine excellent, and Katia our waitress was very professional and kind. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back.

I have been to Barbes a number of times and my summary is consistent and consistently good. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. The food, traditional moroccan, is really good. Service is definitely a plus. Small restaurant with a very attentive staff-- these folks have been at the restaurant for a number of years and they... More

I came here for dinner with my daughter before a play, and we had appetizers (artichoke and hummus) and then a chicken tagine and a Greek salad for the main course. We had what appeared to be homemade sparkling water in lieu of wine and then split the pastille au lait for dessert. The dessert was a little bland for... More

Impromptu dinner on way back from gym on the next block to my hotel. Warm welcome, good wine selection by the glass and the steak au poivre was well cooked and delicious. Good value for NYC.

My salmon skewer was nice, with sides of cucumber salad, nicely spiced white beans, and a lettuce salad. But my husband's veggie omelette looked fabulous. The eggs were cooked separately from the vegetables, and the asparagus, broccoli, and other vegetables piled high over the eggs and goat cheese were perfect. A beautiful and delicious meal. We had a steamed artichoke... More

I cannot say enough good things about Barbes. I travel to New York on business extensively and I try to dine at Barbes as often as I can; it is that good. The overall experience is wonderful. While it is always busy, it never feels over crowded. The lights are dim for a comfortable atmosphere. The service is very friendly... More

This place came up on Open Table when searching for a Moroccan restaurant. On a Tuesday at 10:15pm we were the only ones there! The food was good, not mind blowing. Service was on point, just felt slightly uncomfortable eating when we were the only ones there and some staff was just sitting around. Music was chill with influences from... More

Went there for dinner and made a reservation through open table, which did not have accurate reservation times. Person in party pulled the door out to get in and it would not budge...so assuming it was closed. I then tried and pushed in and we were able to enter (fire Hazzard?) We were greeted promptly and our meals were pretty... More

Last week, while in Brooklyn, we decided to do a little shopping at Macy's in Manhattan, which was its normal very crowded condition during the holidays. After elbowing our way out of the store, we decided to have a late lunch at Barbes, which is a fairly short walk from Macy's. We had the restaurant to ourselves. No problems with... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
