It looks like a really old basement. The tables are crowded together. The menus are stained. But then the magic begins... A piano player plays a mix of Yiddish and modern melodies and everyone is singing. As the bottles of vodka in blocks of ice...More

The decor is 1970's paneling covered in taped up photos & florescent lighting...don't let that discourage you from eating at the best restaurant in New York! We started with chicken liver pate (this did not sound good to at least 2 people at our table)...More

The place was good, no doubt, but it somehow fell short of my expectations since I’ve heard so many people rave about it. I had a veal chop which was very, very good. Other items were a little above average, but not much. Live music...More

We had never heard of Sammy's, when our cousin who arranged a surprise birthday party for her Dad and claimed it was one of his favorite NY restaurants, invited us to come celebrate. We were not disappointed by this venue in the least. The food...More

If you want an interesting night, this is the place. The food is Romanian, which means there is a lot of meat. I really love it. Then the vodka bottles came in as Ice cubes, and suddenly the piano/keyboard man starts playing various billboard hits...More

We were there for a family celebration, 24 people in the upstairs room, with 3 other groups almost as large. It was extremely crowded and noisy. The room should have had 30 or 40 at the most, and there were over 80, I would estimate....More

I agree with the previous reviewer who said to allow a total of two hours (if you make it that long). Three hours is a possibility if it's a particularly good crowd or you just happen to be having fun.
