A must in the area. We came for an improvised birthday and stayed until the end. Our waiter was the best I have ever experienced in New York. Gentle, attentive with good advices like the lab platter we had. Regarding the food, the lamb as I said was a revelation. One of the most incredible plate I've ever had in... More

It is so cute and has so much promise. But TOTALLY failed to deliver. The food was so-so. Passable. But the service staff could not have been more dis-interested in serving us and the room was very drafty and cold (had to keep my jacket on and I'm warm-blooded!) With all it's charm it just didn't deliver.

I ordered ice tea and the pitta bread with hummus one sunny day while exploring NYC by myself. The pitta bread was HUGE and fresh out the oven. The ice tea was perfect and the hummus, also in a large bowl, also excellent. I sat outside people watching in the sunshine and found the staff / owner to be extremely... More

The Turkish food here is very good, fresh, and tasty. Being a foodie and having just come back from Istanbul, I liked it a lot. The chicken kebap, hummus, taboulie, pizza, and several other dishes were shared across our table of 6. Everything was good, very good and given the price, a real steal. The downside was these guys are... More

Firstly I would like to say that Moustache's food is always DELICIOUS, and I have nothing against the owners. This review is just to warn other diners about the staff at the East Village location. I would highly suggest that people visit one of the other branches, like the West Village location where everyone has always been friendly. THE FOOD-... More

As a vegetarian, I sometimes face challenges in locating good options while travelling. Of course New York has a great variety to offer in all types of cusines. Moustache is a great place for a good selection of vegetarian mid-eastern food. The service is very friendly and accomodating. Children are welcome, and the atmosphere is casual. I first ate there... This oriental restaurant (the guys are from Libya) is nice, but actually average. The food is ok (could have been a bit more salted), the prices are ok. Staff is nice. It is possible to sit outside (under a roof/carpet). If you are looking for a special experience, you will probably find it boring.

Loved the falafels. Just perfect - warm, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside :) The thin crust Moustache Pizza is also yummy!

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
