Six of us went for an early dinner after attending a matinee at La MaMa across the street. We were seated promptly and delicious Italian bread with a tasty dip appeared quickly. Some of us got the prix fixe dinner, priced at $15.95. A great bargain, especially because the menu choices were extremely generous. We got a good-sized bowl of... More

We met friends for dinner in the city and my friend booked reservations at Cucina di Pesce in the East Village. Overall it was a very enjoyable dining experience. We sat in the back room that is spacious with a huge sky light atrium. It's a lovely room. There were a few large parties there that made that room extremely... More

We had Christmas dinner at this restaurant and loved it! The atmosphere was classic Italian as were the servers, and the food was fresh and delicious. The lasagna was excellent! Our server was very attentive and made sure everything was prepared to our satisfaction. The prices were also very reasonable. If you're looking for great Italian food and atmosphere this... More

We remember this place from years ago and when our favorite Italian restaurant, Bianca, closed we thought about trying it again. Not bad, not so good, either. The service is very friendly and prompt. The food is just average, though my husband enjoyed his brook trout. My lasagna was so so ( miss the bechamel). So we continue to seek... More

We have been to this lower east side restaurant in, well, decades. On a recent theatre visit on 4th st, we went next door and gave it a shot. Wow, has it changed. And for the better. New, friendly decor. great Italian food and reasonably priced. Good serve. Excellent wine list. We'll be back.

The location has a great vibe and the service was mostly good, but for a seafood place, some of the basic dishes were not great. The mussels, for example, were very dried out and came with a white wine sauce that had hints of being prepared with rancid ingredients. However, the chicken marsala was really good, and the homemade pasta... More

Cucina di Pesce is a lovely ‘neighbourhood’ Italian restaurant in East Village, conveniently situated near the 2nd Avenue stop on Subway line F. It offers a fantastically good-value early bird menu between 4pm-6.30pm – only $13.95 for salad, soup, a main dish and a glass of wine! There’s a choice of 7 mains, including 2 vegetarian, 3 fish/seafood, and 2... More

Our second visit to Cucina and it was just as great as the first time. The service was wonderful, our glasses were never empty as the gentleman refilled them immediately. I have never had a better Sicilian lasagna and the Tiramisu was amazing. I cannot give this place enough praise. Prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
