Where to start, chips really soggy dripping in oil, Haddock (despite ordering large) was average portion, flavorless and tasteless. Pickled onions very bland not even close to proper pickled onions. Mushy peas was bland not even seasoned properly and beer was warm. On top of it all everything is overpriced. We ended up spending almost $50 sitting on a vinyl... More

I'm a big fan of fish and chips and was very excited to try A Salt and Battery in Greenwich Village. I visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I ordered a regualr cod, a side of chips and irn bru to go. The staff was friendly and my order was finished quickly, even though the shop was moderately busy. I... More

Good old English style Fish, chips and mushy Peas. My cousin recommended this place to me, as it was Friday it had to be. I read some reviews on Trip Advisor some good some not so good, but you gotta try for yourself i say and what a good choice, i opted for large haddock chips and mushy peas, my... More

We really want to like A Salt and Battery, the fish is fresh, we've been many times. But twice now of late, it's been greasy when served to us, both the fish and the potatoes. So greasy, it can make you gag. The people there are nice, and everyone says it's authentic. But...they need to take the time and care... More

This small eatery is a must. Yes, small, like only seven seats. But if you are a fish and chips person, do go in and eat. It's not a big menu. Other than fish and chips, they have shrimp, scallops, beets and a few other selections. Everything is deep fried to perfection. The fish is moist and flaky but not... More

This is a very small place with about 9 total places to sit, however it's worth it. The fish is absolutely delicious and the special tartar sauce is amazing! This is walking distance to Stonewall Inn also which is also a plus.

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, a couple blocks from the 14th Street 8th Avenue subway, this is the place for fish and chips! Also, try out their eating contest (As much as I would love to, I know I won't be successful.)

It's a tiny little hole in the wall, but the fish and chips were excellent. I loved that you could chose from a variety of fish- we chose the haddock and were delighted with our selection. Thankfully, we shared the crispy, fresh fries- the portion was huge!

Considering there aren't that many good options for fish and chips, this hits the spot. It's tiny, but that adds to the charm!

I was seeking this restaurant out due to the great reviews. While it was good and the name was entertaining, it didn't strike me as something extra special. It is very small with just 6 stools, the food tastes like you would expect- mushy peas taste just like peas, battered beets are the same. The haddock was very good. The... More

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
