They're friendly but their hookahs can use a little help. Good for a night after work... but that's pretty much it,

THis little hole in the wall does not look like much but the food is outstanding. They use excellent spices to ramp up some dishes and ask them for what you like, they will be very helpful. Not crowded at all but good food, excellent service and great prices are rare to fin in the city of scams.

I've been going to Sahara East since I was in high school (which was too long ago, honestly). 17-22 seems to be the typical age of patrons here, and the scene totally reflects that. The price for one hookah is usually over 20 dollars, plus drinks and food. The hummus is actually great, but the EDM house music blasted at... More

Wanted a relaxing environment just to have drinks and smoke hookah. After some failed attempts I was referred to this place by a limo driver. This is exactly what I wanted. Great music. Relaxing atmosphere. Decent prices. Highly recommended.

My 17 year old daughter and 6 of her friends were served shots and three rounds of drinks without even being asked for ID!!!! As a parent I take full responsibility for my daughter's actions but someone at this restaurant as to take responsibility for serving under age teenagers drinks!!!

we ordered the lentil soup, chicken soup and the chicken kebab, all of which were delicious! they were extremely nice and eager to help us. we also got the jib jab hookah flavor and the sweet melon, i personally preferred the sweet melon, but it was really cool how the jib jab was in a real pineapple - they will... The fresh fruit hookahs are great, they hit really well and you don't need to get more than one. Bottles of Corona are $7 a pop. However, the scam they pull is the "credit card machine" isn't working once your bill gets over about $50 so you have to pay cash. The last two times I've been there it has... More

We had a very bad experience here. After complaining they told us there was no way they could take anything off the bill because they had already put it in their ordering system. I've never seen a business not be able to take something off the check. Beware, if you are unhappy with food or service, do not expect to... More

Drink , smoke and have fun ! That's the way it is if you wanna party like a rockstar! they make the best hookah ever, none of the other hookah bar arround can do the same. This is the only Hookah cozy bar that has a private garden & backyard ;-) I also have to say that the waiter called... More

Sahara East is dirty and has horrendous service. When we sat down, one of our friends immediately said it smelled terrible. The rest of us didn't smell anything, so we went ahead and ordered our hookah and a pitcher of sangria. I soon noticed that there was vomit in the bathroom sink, and told our waiter. After half an hour,... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
