Met a buddy here while in town for a meeting. Late lunch. Seated quickly. Waiter popped by with water, bread, and took drink orders. Came back minutes later and took oyster orders. Made some recommendations, and within a few anxious minutes we had fantastic plates of raw oysters and the usual accompaniments in front of us. Crowd noise was average,... More

Not what we expected. A glorified canteen with poor service. We'd hoped for an intimate seafood experience but it was very noisy and the service was negligible. Wouldn't go back. I particularly hate it when waiters clear the plates of one diner when the other is still eating.

Always wanted to try this place but for one reason or another never did until our last visit. Had chowder (good) and calamari (delicious). Food is good, but for me it's more about the setting which is just gorgeous.

Perhaps our expectations were too high but we were all expecting a more elegant setting and great seafood. The restaurant is underground with lowish ceilings and tiled floors hence very noisy. The checked table cloths are reminescent of an italian trattoria. The food was variable. The raw oysters were wonderful, the fried oysters were overpowered by a heavy batter, the... More

It's worth a detour to go and visit this restaurant and the station. It's worth a detour to avoid eating there, unless you go for the oysters.Avoid the cooked food.As a Greek I am spoiled with the Greek seafood and I found the shrimp and the bouyabess really bad. And so was the service. If you go go to the bar... More

While we'd love to have impressed you more this time around, we certainly look forward to doing better next time. While it is true we are known for our oysters, we want absolutely everything on our menu to be delicious, so don't write off our cooked food just yet! Best, Frank, General Manager More

We had lunch here and it was such a cool place to hang out for a couple of hours. We had catfish fingers with fries which was really tasty. There is a very large menu and everything we saw people around us eating looked great. My lobster starter was a little chewy, but it can be like that. Nice sauce... More

This old school saloon is exactly what we were hoping for when we went to Grand Central Station. We've eaten at the Oyster Bar previously but never made it into the Saloon. The atmosphere is very cool, it's quite and a great escape from the hustle and bustle. Wood paneling surrounds you so it's a very warm and charming spot.... More

For seafood lovers, this place is a delight. They regularly have 12+ varieties of oysters to order by the piece or the dozen, including both East and West Coast oysters. We ordered two varieties of West Coast oysters and they tasted as fresh as if they had just been pulled from the ocean. I would suggest making a reservation -... More

The ambience in the saloon was not very inspiring. The fried oysters came out a minute after my order was placed...literally. While I like my food fast this brief turnaround made me question the freshness of my meal. Just as I suspected, the oysters were lukewarm and tasted as if they'd been sitting under a heat lamp or microwaved out... More

Our fried oysters are very popular here, which means we're constantly making them around the clock so that we can keep up with the demand. While we apologize if your meal wasn't quite what you were expecting temperature wise, we can assure you that they were made fresh. Most of our guests enjoy how quickly we bring out their order,... Description
Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!
