Perfect to accomodate large groups. Traditional food, large portions. Not very fancy but sufficient elegance. Conveniently located.

Good diner, open 6am to midnight. Prompt pleasant service. Convenient. Usual diner fare - breakfast to burgers, sandwiches, full dinners. We have had breakfast here a number of times. A bit pricey - coffee is $2.20, soda is $3.05, eggs (with no meat) $8+ so two people for breakfast will be around $25. A little dark now that there is... More

You can get any breakfast item you want at Silver Star. We came back after the theater for dessert. Yummy

Did both take-out and dine-in. Take out portions were enormous, Food was a C+, not bad. Reasonably priced and very little wait. The dine-in was lunch and they were very nice and there was little wait for the food. Dine-in food was also a C+. Would go back when needed to grab something quick.

Any diner in business for over 50 years New York City must be doing a great deal right. Service this morning was very prompt and very friendly, the coffee was delicious, and a lox and scrambled egg wrap was cooked to perfection.

Have visited Silver Star many many times over the years - always with family. I have mixed feelings ... Place is very clean and there is lots of choice on the menu. However, staff can be unfriendly and provide a 'throw at you' service which is disappointing - pity the service is not a little more friendly. That said, I... More

We visited Silver Star Restaurant two times during our trip to NYC. It was conveniently located to the apartment we were staying in and was one of the only places open during our late arrival. The lunch and dinner menus are filled with an extensive selection of entrees. The Monte Cristo was wonderful, it was not made like other restaurants.... More

Not fancy but good quality food with a huge menu. Ate here three times while staying nearby and was never disappointed. No atmosphere except nostalgic for iconic Greek diners (like in "Seinfeld") that are disappearing.

If you're looking for fancy fine dining, this is not your place. But for reasonably priced, large portions of home cooked food in NYC, this is a great option in the Upper East Side. We were the only tourists at the restaurant and greatly enjoyed our meal - my mom had a half chicken dinner with choice of veg and... More

Service is good - friendly and fast. The setting is ok as well, whereas the food (we had breakfast) could be better. Omelettes were ivercooked and pancakes on the dry side.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
