This past week in NYC we dined at The Modern, Daniel, LeBernadin, KJUNGSIK and Bouley, with The Modern being the first. Our experience at The Modern was exceptional; we had previously dined in the less expensive part of the restaurant when Gabriel Kreuther was in charge of the kitchen and enjoyed it; our current experience was several levels above. We... More

The Modern was elevated to Two Michelin Stars for 2016 and it's so easy to see why. The overall experience of eating here was nothing short of pure bliss. I sat in the bar area since I only wanted to sample a few dishes. I didn't think that I was ready for a full blown multi course tasting, but in... More

Bear in mind: this is a 2-star restaurant, not your neighborhood restaurant! Pro's: the food To be honest, the food is good. Con's: personnel OMG! It goes the wrong way the moment you enter the restaurant.... - guy at the front desk doesn't say a word and keeps on fanatically hitting the computer screen without paying attention to the guests... Not worth it at all. 208 tasting menu for 8 courses is just a trap. It is just like modern art, which no longer persues beautifulness but being different.

Impressions-gluten friendly, remarkable view of the MOMA sculpture garden, service friendly and attentive, above adequate wine by the glass selection, global wine list appropriately priced, excellent food, service included, very expensive We arrived at 12:30 for the 12:30 reservation and were seated promptly at a table along the ceiling to floor windows overlooking the sculpture garden at The Museum of... Very warm greetings by so many upon entering! The outside back space has a touch of Bois de Boulogne without tall trees yet. Ok only for well behaved children as the ambiance is sophisticated with lovers and business encounters, first dates and close friends. Drinks quite expensive but well worth the concoctions! Cheeses were to die for and we had... More

The Modern was an amazing experience. I'm not sure which was better; the food, or the service. Servers were so fast and kind; we didn't need to ask for anything. The food was remarkable. Our table shared 5 appetizers and each had main dishes. Black Truffle Cavatelli || Tarte Flambée || Milk Chocolate Pain Perdu was perfect.

Make a reservation in advance. Two venues, 3 item pre-fixe or a la carte. Small tasy portions and a very impressive wine list $$$. Such a civlized treat while museuming.

Excellent lunch (mushroom en croute), excellent service, overpriced wine list, but their no-tipping policy keeps the cost of a meal (at least lunch) within reason for a memorable stop.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
