Outdated decor. Friendly chef. Mediocre food. Not particularly clean. Pretty stiff prices. It's a time warp kind of experience.

We, like many other reviewers, stumbled into this place on a Sunday morning after trying to get into Penelope's which had a huge wait. I have to agree with all the other reviewers who rate this restaurant as terrible. It is exactly as they say....More

The "chef" displays his status by dressing like Chef Boy-ar-dee. This should have warned me. I ordered the french toast with caramelized banana because of one of the reviews that was posted in the restaurant. The waiter was pleasant enough, but the full order of...More

The food, decor, ambiance, of this place is really quite bad. Then again, maybe I just don't get it. The food is in a time warp. Expect large, sloppy dishes with 'stuff' on your plate --- no clean, sharp flavors or carefully blended tastes here....More

My husband and I were looking for a nice place to eat Sunday brunch on our vacation to NYC. Our hotel recommended Penelope's which unfortunately had an hour and a half wait. We decided to look around and discovered Chez le Chef. Our first clue...More

Chef Frederic prepares delicious food, mostly French but some German. While not cheap, this restaurant is quite reasonable in comparison to the majority of French restaurants in NYC. On a recent visit to the city, I ate there for the first time on a Sunday,...More

Coming from the Midwest, my wife and I were feeling a little unimpressed by the New York city culinary offerings that we hoped would be, quite frankly, beyond our expectations. Overdone lambchops, burnt pizza, and surly service were just some of the experiences that we...More

We live in the neighborhood and just stopped here for brunch. We had a great time. The decor is fun and homey. There was an accordion player with live music. The food was excellent. My husband had the framers omelette which he loved. I had...More

The reviewer who said send your enemies was right. Disgusting. Food was all undercooked. The decor is from granny's attic - dried flowers with 20 years of dust. How is this place still operating in NYC?!? I read the reviews & went anyway. Don't make...More

We enyoyed a late breakfast one Sunday morning. Farmer's omlet, French toast, croissant all wonderful. Service friendly and throw back to different era. Live accordian player. We recommend restaurant to anyone looking for a non-cookie cutter, moderately priced and unique dinning experience.
