Still my favorite restaurant in the world - great unique sushi. Usually crowded tho so reservations highly recommended. Service is friendly although they're very busy. Sitting at the sushi bar is probably better for couples if you're going for the omakase.

We were wet and looking for somewhere for lunch and as soon as we saw Sushi of Gari we just knew we had to go in. Not disappointed with anything as staff were great the food was great but form a quiet little restaurant it got very busy very quickly however the additional people didn't take anything away from the... Well, simply the best sushi I ever had! Fatty tuna slices just melt in to your mouth. The price is proportional to the quality... so if you look for cheap, tasteless nigiri this is absolutely not your address!

Comparisons are difficult but Sushi of Gari on Columbus Avenue had excellent food and fine service at their Sushi bar. The tasting menu at the bar was beautifully prepared and presented. Yes, it is expensive but it was an experience that I am happy to relate. Subtle flavours and complemented by some excellent boutique Japanese beers. Particularly the Kagua Pale... More

I'm a little surprised by the Michelin star here, however the food is certainly very good. We liked everything, but wouldn't recommend to a holidaying friend as a must visit restaurant in the city. We started by sharing a sashimi lunch special then eel & cucumber and spicy shrimp tempura hand rolls - all were delicious, not no real "wow!"... More

While the sushi is terrific, the attitude of the staff more than compensates in the negative direction. If you sit at the sushi bar, you must order omakase. The reservationists try hard to force this alternative. While my wife and I love their sushi, we are more than a little reluctant to visit because of the close to hostile attitudes... More

I have eaten SUSHI frequently in Japan, my home country. It's almost a place and time to enjoy raw fish taste. It's first time to eat SUSHI in New York, and was wondering how I feel new taste SUSHI. But no doubt . Japanese also enjoy SUSHI here.

I admit the friends who suggested Gari for dinner hyped it unmercifully - "best Japanese in the city", "best Japanese in America", "best sushi ever". So perhaps I was overly hopeful. For anyone who's spent a lot of time in Japan, or lived there, it's a bit confusing. Instead of the omakase menu being a several-course dinner, starting with light... More

One of the best sushis in New York. Pricey but original and refined. If you are looking for "California roll" do not come here: here the sushi recipes are atypical and imaginative and taste fabulous. My advice: go for the Omakase tasting menu.
