We visited last time we were in New York, this time we were treating my parents to a nice city break - so ended up back here. The cookies here are - and I don't say this lightly - the best anywhere on the planet....More

After a recommendation from a friend we stopped here for a chocolate chip cookie. There was a line out the door so we knew it had to be as good as we'd been told. The line moved quickly.( Thank goodness because it was cold out)...More

Everything has been said in other reviews. This place has some extremely tasty stuff. Stopped here on our way to the Museum of Natural History for coffee and cookies. Were not disappointed. Fun fact: the birds that live near this bakery are really fat.

What a find! Levain is located in a small basement shop - simply fitted with no dining area. The bakery is a short walk from the 72 St station on the red line. We were there in the morning and there was no queue. We...More

You HAVE to visit...I’ve honestly never tasted cookies like these...you just don’t get the warm, gooey, American style ones back in the UK. Went for the walnut chocolate chip and the dark chocolate chocolate chip - both of which were divine! Stayed warm until we’d...More

Best cookie I ever eaten. Super soft and moist. A MUST have. We visited at the new branch that is near by the small one, on Amsterdam street. Has very few seats, I wish they had more so that you could sit and drink coffee...More

The line goes quickly so don't let the line out the door deter your visit. We had the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie and the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie. Both were huge and could be easily shared. The warm, thick center makes these...More

Description
Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
