Small bakery with a huge following. Before visiting NYC, we researched different restaurants and bakeries to try and Levain Bakery popped up on almost every list. We were lucky and managed to get there with little to no line to wait in. The cookies smelled amazing as did all of the items offered in the bakery. My husband and I... More

We stopped by here last weekend to try out the cookies and we were not disappointed. The store is very small and easy to miss, we knew we were in the right place when there was a line down the block. Once inside the store you have about 4 cookies to choose from and they are super sized. We tried... More

The bakery itself is small.. Too small for the foot traffic of the business which is in part why I give it 4 stars but the cookies are amazing! They have oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip walnut, double chocolate, and chocolate peanut butter. They're amazing and have a hard outside with a warm gooey inside!

We were in the neighbourhood after getting out of Central Park during our visit in NYC and we thought of giving this bakery a try after reading so many good reviews for an afternoon snack. And we were not disappointed! You come across this tiny place which only fits 3-4 people to sit since it mainly operates as a take... More

Seriously best chocolate chips cookies I've ever tried, though I'd rather describe them as brownies since they are so big and fluffy. Get only one , they are huge!

A big fat cookie good enough for 2 people. Eat it while it's hot cuz it loses a bit of it's magic if you wait too long!

Description
Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
