This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the city! I have been here for dinner several times and have never had a bad experience. They have a wide variety of beers on tap and the staff always has a good recommendation. I usually order some Bavarian pretzels as an appetizer and get the veal schnitzel as an... More

This place has been around for eleven years, so they can obviously weather a negative review. I think you will enjoy Lederhosen if you are drunk, are headed there. It has seven German beers on draft, and lots of others in bottles, and the bar in the front looks jolly. I suppose I should have ordered the sausages; others around... More

Hanging out in the village? Need a break from shopping and all the hustle and bustle? Definitely check this place out if you like German beers and food. We stumbled on this place during one Sunday's stroll around the village, while they were having some specials. Service was great, as was the food (sausages, yum) and beer (BIG).

Basic German food: Sauerbraten, wuersten, Wienerschnitzel (choice of chicken, pork or veal, which seemed unusual). Good beer on draft. Informal. Was a great place to go mid-week on a rainy day. Covered backyard with picnic tables. Very good prices. Food and beer excellent. Service excellent. If you're in the mood....

The place was jumping when we arrived around 8 for dinner with a German band playing and customers joining in the fun. We were seated right away in the bar area away from the bier garden at our request but we could still be part of the festivities. Our waitress was very nice and I believe the daughter of the... This is a fun laid back place to hang out with friends for some good quality day drinking. The German beers on tap are delicious. I love the big mugs that you can drink from as well as das boot if you're up for a challenge. I only had appetizers but they were good and worked well with the beer.... More

Having visited Germany earlier in July, my friend and I decided to recapture the vacation mode by eating German food (Schweinhaxe no less). The food was good, although truth be told, it did taste different from those we had in Germany. We were there early on a Friday evening and there was hardly a crowd. The service was good and... I ordered Schweinshaxe (slowly cooked pork shank and then roasted, served in its own gravy) with sauerkraut and German Fries. The pork shank is cooked with the skin off, which is the different from the pork knuckles I had in Germany. I ate the pork shank with and without the gravy or sauerkraut, which served different supposes. Personally, I like... More

If you are looking for a fancy place to dine in the West Village, this is not it. If you are looking for a place with terrific German food, this IS it! We started with warm pretzels and pickles for our appetizers and washed them down with steins of very good German beer. Three of us got different schnitzel meals,... More

First impression is that it is a bit quirky. When the food came, we were so impressed with how authentic the food is. In fact, it is possibly the best German food I have ever had, and I lived in Germany for a year and have traveled there several times in the past few years. We started off with the... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
