We visited PDT after hearing about a speakeasy hidden in a hot dog shop. The bar is through the phone booth in Crif hot dogs. You go in the booth and pick up the phone to let them know you are there and then the false wall in the booth opens to the bar area when they can seat you.... More

Turned up at 1am on Monday morning to PDT as our last Speakeasy stop and we were not disappointed. At 1am, we could get a New York hot dog from 'Crif Dogs' while we waited in line to make the call... our table was ready before our hot dogs were, but no problem, they brought them to our table! We... More

Me and three others were fortunate to get in around 6 pm and actually gained entrance with booth seating. Someone cancelled and we had the space until 8 pm they said. We ended up staying a little past then because they said we could. The servers were knowledgeable, hospitable, and had quick service. AK was our server and she helped... More

...but not really worth the hassle. They serve very good cocktails, but not te most innovative or tastiest I've had...mind, I pride myself on being a connaisseur of jams, bread, ramen, and yes cocktails. Bar is cosy and bartenders know their stuff, they do their job with gusto but keep to the script and the script is a tad narrow... More

A huge contrast to the establishment you have to walk through to get to this bar- such a pleasant surprise and interesting concept. The bartender was very friendly and attentive- cocktails were nice and service prompt! Tad on the strong side, so be warned- at least you're getting your money's worth in terms of alcohol! We were lucky as we... More

We put our name down at 8:30pm on a Sunday night. Had a hotdog, went next door for a drink, came back to check up and found there were still three groups in front of us. Went away to have another drink and got the call just before 11:30. We were really hoping for a spectacular bar, but when we... More

Recommended from a tour guide in Central Park and well worth the visit. Clearly from previous reviews, it is a busy location as more and more people are aware of it. The location inside a hot dog shop adds to the experience, I didn't know what to expect when I walked into Crift Dogs and saw 3 people huddled around... More

We've been there with my GF, first the guy at the entrance told me "you have to come back in three hours" (and the bar was closing only two hours later), we came back one hour later and that time my girlfriend ask and they told her "ok in ten minutes". Two guys were just before us the second time... More

Try to make day-of reservations if you can get through (it took us several tries) because you will love this tiny place. We went for the novelty of it, which is worth it in itself, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cocktails and friendliness of the bartender. Very enjoyable!

A friend took us to this great little place in the East Village. Very nice cocktails (manhattans, martini and planters punch). Get there early even on a Sunday night. Nice experience.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
