I went here with my wife and her cousin to hang out after going to a few other spots. This one played a really good mix of Dancehall, Soca, and hip-hop. The best music spot for the night. We started off downstairs and stayed for awhile then sat upstairs for the remainder of the night and just chilled behind one... More

I loved Karma for the music! They have a great upstairs and downstairs section for you to choose from with a bar on each floor. The music was amazing and I found myself jamming all night. The problem I had was paying a cover of $25.00 to have basically no place to stand or sit. It was that packed!! It... More

I've been coming here for a few years now so I've seen things change in staffing. I absolutely love the girls that work here and they're great at their jobs. The hookah is good, inexpensive and lasts a good amount of time. The drinks are also pretty cheap. My girlfriend and I usually spend less than $60 on a hookah... More

Walked over here from Chinatown and entered into a dim , dark, dismal, dirty bar. Probably just as well it's so dark that you don't actually see the dirt. very low seating and velvet curtains with lots of alcoves. Drinks were pricey and the clientele were well, strange....yes, you can smoke inside, but I would rather be in a more... More

I went to Karma Lounge late one night with some friends - we had started out at Velvet Cigar Lounge on 7th Street and when that closed, headed on to Karma. I had never smoked hookah before, and in that respect, I enjoyed my time there. Otherwise, I found it grungy, worn looking, typical I suppose of old dive-y sorts... More

I went there for a drink after recommendation from a friend. The only that was good about it was the fact that we could some inside. The place inside does stink of smoke and is really dark. It seems very run down and the loud music played was terrible (britney spears like).. So yeah you can smoke inside but to... More

Really hip little place and also it is very nice being able to smoke inside when it's freezing out. However it is not the cheapest place in the world. For example if you ask for a shot, the bartenders will automatically make it a treble and charge you $9 accordingly...

I was able to find excellent cous-cous here, not easily found in NYC. We ate in their garden, & it was lovely. Their desserts are wonderful as well.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
