Being for the UK we don't get 'real' mexican, so I was searching for great places in NYC. Out of 3 places we tried this place won! Not only do you get great energy in the restaurant but the food if varied and so tasty. Guacamole made at the table is a fun touch and although not the best I've... More

This first Rosa Mexicano location has been around for decades....there are now 2 other locations in Manhattan. The First Avenue location has been consistently good and our go-to place for Mexican. Lively, fun, great food and service. Generous portions (even for Restaurant Week menu) was a pleasant surprise! Save room for their milk cake....very light and not too sweet: excellent... More

I've eaten at this restaurant in Atlanta years ago and loved it so we were confident going in NYC. The guacamole made table side is outstanding. I also love the pomegranate margarita. I ate the fish & shrimp soft shell tacos. They were wonderful. Everything else we ordered burritos, etc were really tasty. The service was good and everyone was... More

The restaurant was full but we booked a table for two. The waiter has been immediately friendly and happy with us, suggesting to start from the hand made guacamole..an awesome start for the dinner. The portion is huge but we have decided for a main as well..The three mixed enchiladas and the fillet with chorizo, both really good. As drink... More

Delicious Mexican food! Great service! We called 2 hours before our reservation and they were able to accomodate us by pushing it back a half an hour. In NYC that made me nervous, but they were packed when we arrived! They were friendly, helpful etc. The iced tea comes out in its own small fancy pitcher - very cool. The... More

Unfortunately, we went too late to really enjoy the wonderful dinning experience that we had here. All the food chosen was spot on and tasted wonderful, eating at 10pm though was too late. Full of Mexican patrons too which was a good sign.

You MuST have the guacamole - made at your table and simply delicious (and I usually hate guacamole). Had a really fantastic meal - strongly recommended. Frozen Pomegranate cocktail was fab.

Our flagship location opened its doors on First Avenue in 1984 and was bestowed with a glowing, two-star review from The New York Times. From the moment you arrive, old world charm permeates your dining experience through authentic Mexican colors and rustic folk art. Traditional amate gods greet you at the front entrance and brightly colored papel picado hangs from the ceiling. Corn tortillas are made on site and an exposition grill further seduces your senses. With its warm ambiance and outstanding cuisine, this Rosa Mexicano location has remained a perennial New York favorite for over 20 years.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
