Good East Village inexpensive neighborhood Italian (Japanese) restaurant. Interesting concept, creatively executed.

Went to Dieci for Father's Day. It's a tiny Italian/Japanese restaurant, and sooooo delicious! The appetizers were small (considering we shared them among four people), but the entrees and dessert were a good size and we were pretty full after. For appetizers, we got grilled squid (special for that day), pork belly buns, foie gras, and tuna salad (foie gras... More

This is a very small restaurant and they tell you when you make a reservation that you can't linger more than two hours. Putting that aside, the experience is fantastic. All the serving staff are super pleasant and knowledgeable about the food. The food is of course the standout. The fusion of Japanese and Italian is very innovative. The tuna... More

This fusion works very well. It's a small restaurant in West Village with a nice little menu. My friends and I loved it so much that we returned 4 times in two weeks trying various dishes. First, you must try the chawarmushi foie gras. I never tire ordering this. The clam in pasta is nothing like I have had before.... More

Japanese Italian , who knew. Small intimate setting. Food well prepared with unique combination. Kale salad and Brussel sprouts well flavored. Lamb ragu on Ramen noodles great combo. Nice selection of wines. Not your typical new york tourist restaurant.

What do you get when you combine great Italian dishes and fine Japanese food: Dieci. If you like both cuisines, you will not leave disappointed.

This Japanese / Italian restaurant is tiny and romantic and I wanted to love it but it did not float my boat. Excellent pork buns made with pork belly. The Cod was cooked correctly but the mushroom risotto served with it a real disappointment. Way over cooked and just mushy. The inexpensive truffle oil they used with it made it... More

We went to Dieci as a recommendation from a very good friend. The food did not disappoint. The location is small and seating is tight. Takishi the manager was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The food was so good, my wife wanted to go back the next night.

Seems a odd combination but all 22 enjoyed this restaurant. We booked entire restaurant for a pre-wedding dinner. Very small, need reservations. A favorite of relatives who live in Manhattan where is plenty to choose from.

Visiting New York June 2015 we had made advanced reservations at several allegedly serious rated restaurants . We were disappointed in several of these "star" places...American restaurant cooking is lagging way behind Europe ..but wonderfully pleased to discover this small gem on the same street as our apartment . Instead of 2151 rated this is way superior to Craft which... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
