I had intended to visit the Bahn Mi Saigon Bakery on previous visits to New York but had never made it. This time, I finally got to try what has been described as New York’s Best Asian Sandwich. Located at 198 Grand Street in Chinatown, this small eatery has established a strong reputation for excellent Vietnamese sandwiches. I opted for... More

I visited here after a mention in the Rough Guide book of New York. I had a shredded pork bun and I wasn't disappointed, it was packed full of fresh vegetables and herbs and delicious marinated meat. In fact it was so good I queued up again an order a chicken. one to take with me or my nest meal... More

Again I got the Curry Chicken. I had the choice to have it spicy or not. The spicy is not too strong. Not at all. The sandwich is huge for $5.75. Good to get there early because seating is limited.

This place must be famous for its sandwich which I realised later. I am not a great fan of sandwich so I tried some Vietnamese noodles and I never had such a bland food in my life. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Really cheap and quick sandwiches. The food quality was good and the area was clean. It was nice to actually to be able to sit inside to get away from the heat.

Very clean restaurant with pretty good open space. They only take cash. I got the BBQ pork bahn mi. It was okay but considering it's only $4.50 it's better than any other I've tried in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The bahn mi has ground pork, with fresh greens and carrots. At $4.50 try for yourself. Oddly there is a jewelry counter... More

The sandwiches are fantastic. Simple as that. It's a basic place. It does great food. Look here's the perspective - last night I ate at gramercy tavern and that was excellent but was 60 bucks for a starter and a main. Today I ate for 5 dollars and it was excellent. One was fancy and one wasn't. Both did the... More

Service was a bit rude, and I did experience good service elsewhere in Chinatown, so it is not warranted. The place is always packed with long waiting lines, so perhaps the lady was feeling stressed. The bahn mi was good, but not better than the one I had the day before from a la Saigon.

First stop for a quick lunch when we got into NYC. If you ever had one, go here and get the pork #1 on their menu, fantastic flavors and all of $5. Get there before the lunch rush or wait through the line. If you never had one, go here! Freshest baguette with a crispy crunch, and the fillings are... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
