The atmosphere is casual & quite dark with no frills bare distressed wood tables. Our evening meal with friends was truly a disappointment. Entrees are overpriced & we were appalled with the small portions when they arrived at to our table. The lamb shoulder was pounded out to simulate flat crispy pancakes, the swordfish was a thin sliver of a... More

If you love sampling a bit of everything, Amis is your spot for Italian small plates in Philly. We're obviously not alone, since in both of our visits here, the restaurant has been packed. While it's a bit loud and the tables are closely set, Amis still exudes a casual, upscale vibe where you don't feel hurried but still a... More

Dinner at Amis was excellent on a very busy Valentine's Day evening. It was very crowded in the restaurant and bar when we arrived, however, everything was managed superbly. It was rather noisy due to the volume of people and difficult to hear the waiter's specials - we suggest that the background music be turned off at busy times so... More

Love the small plates and the opportunity to try many options on the menu. The citrus salad with green harissa was delicious! Always a favorite is the bucatini with jalapeños!

My husband and I ordered their meatballs for an appetizer plus the fried calamari and both were absolutely delicious. But the octopus was overcooked, tough, tasteless. I guess I'm just used to having octopus being delicately cooked with a slight char. Parts of it was blackened. The pork chop parmesan was also overcooked, I think it was butterflied, breaded and... The food and service were both excellent, and the cocktails were delicious as well. Definitely recommend the swordfish meatballs!

We booked for a Sunday night so we wouldn't feel rushed - it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is very rustic/chic. The waiter explained the menu to us so we knew what to order and how much. The food was great and sitting near the kitchen was fun because we could see the chefs in action. Bonus: Had a... More

Dined at Amis with family this past weekend - we had a Sat evening 7:45PM reservation. The food was fantastic - I had the polenta ravioli with beef cheek ragu. Apps were also terffic; our group had several. House wine - excellent! Now for the bad news - we were rushed, rushed, rushed to finish our apps, eat our main... More

We arrived a few minutes prior to our restaurant week reservation and were seated pretty quickly. The place was packed. Our server was nice, but didn't hand us the restaurant week menu until we asked for it... the octopus was awesome. It was brined in something and fried, tasting like a fried chicken. The roasted Brussel sprouts with lemon were... More

Arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Bartender was great, the ambiance of the bar is very comfortable and welcoming. Met up with my friends and family for dinner and had a really nice dinner with great service. I would definitely go there again!

Description
Amis brings the quintessential Roman-style trattoria to Philadelphia's Center City neighborhood. Opened in 2010 by Vetri Family partners Jeff Benjamin and Chefs Marc Vetri, Brad Spence and Jeff Michaud, Amis has cemented its place as one of the city's premier dining destinations, garnering high praise from such publications as the Philadelphia Inquirer (three-out-of-four-bells) and Bon Appetit magazine ("Top 10 Places for Pasta in the U.S."), and from the crowds of regular guests who pack its dining room nightly for dinner and weekends for brunch. Lively, comfortable and convivial, dining at Amis is perfect for a variety of occasions, boasting a share-plates menu of house-made pasta, salumi, farm-fresh meats and peak seasonal vegetable dishes, perfect for sharing while celebrating with friends and family, or a meal out with someone special. Be sure to ask about our "Beast of Amis" menu too. These special dishes feature whole animals-birds, hogs, fish and even full sides of beef.
