Jim’s is a fun place to experience some South Philly flair. The line was moderately long, but moved quickly. Honestly the line made the visit seem “worth it”, cause who wants to visit Philly and eat somewhere that no one else does? The cheesesteak itself...More

I hadn’t been to Jim’s for several years - always thought it was real good but not among the best. My last visit was God awful. Start with that big pile of meat that you see at places like Pat’s and Genos. The meat was...More

I had to have a cheese steak in Philadelphia. My brother said this was THE place. He had never been here, but knew by reputation this was suppose to be the best. Now that I've experienced a "Philly Cheese Steak" I can say that the...More

My adult son and I come to town for an Eagles game once every two years. (We follow the team to an away game in alternative years). We have sampled many cheesesteaks over the years. This time we decided to try a head-to-head cheesesteak challenge....More

Definitely worth the wait. We almost walked away when we opened the door and saw the line. But it moved quickly while the anticipation grew. For the Philly cheesesteak you got to choose if you want onions peppers mushrooms, but the big decision was the...More

A friend recommended Jim's Steaks, and she was spot on. This steak sandwich heaping with meat was fantastic! I opted for the traditional Whiz cheese, and mushrooms on top. This was my first authentic Philly Cheese Steak, and it did not disappoint.

We'd heard quite a bit about the sandwiches here so decided to give it a try.Watching the line cooks prepare your order is part of the process. We all selected provolone instead of "whiz" for the cheese. Good flavor, but the onions could have caramelized...More

We did a walking tour of Philly and the guide recommended this place for an authentic lunch. It did not disappoint. Service was quick and fun to watch the efficiency and sculpting of the order. Food was tasty and messy. Seating is limited and this...More

The Barnes is on the parkway about a 2.5 mile walk to us. I would grab a cab or Uber/Lyft.

We are a couple miles away on South St. toward the Delaware River. A thirty minute walk or a 8 minute cab ride.

Description
THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
